Star Rapid is a global rapid prototyping, rapid tooling and low-volume manufacturing company located in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, China. The company was founded in 2005 by Gordon George Styles, a British engineer and U.K. rapid prototyping veteran who now serves as president and CEO. Star Rapid offers a range of advanced manufacturing services including plastic injection molding, CNC machining, metal 3D printing, pressure die casting, vacuum casting and a range of finishing services targeting the consumer, automotive, medical and aerospace industries. Gordon George Styles
Gordon George Styles (born 1964) is a British engineer and entrepreneur. He is the founder and president of Star Rapid, an international provider of rapid prototyping and low-volume manufacturing services. Early life and education Styles was born in Wimbledon, London and grew up in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire in England. He attended the Durham University Business School’s GAP Program, a business development program for entrepreneurs. Career Styles began his career in 1993 at Styles Rapid Prototyping, later known as Styles Rapid Product Development Limited (Styles RPD). STYLES RPD was voted Teesside Small Business of the Year 1996 as well as Gordon Styles being awarded Teesside Business Executive of the Year 1996. Rapid prototyping is a group of techniques used to quickly fabricate a scale model of a physical part or assembly using three-dimensional computer aided design ( CAD) data. Construction of the part or assembly is usually done using 3D printing or " additive layer manufacturing" technology. Rapid Tooling
Rapid tooling (RT) denotes manufacturing on a slim timeline. Some of the main advantages to rapid tooling trades is that it decreases the time and cost of the product. With rapid tools being fast and easily reproducible, it requires less stock for finished tools. These tools will be produced on demand and are available almost immediately. Special tools or tools where no supplier is existing on the market any more can be reproduced without bigger design and production efforts. However, the disadvantages are that it is not as accurate and also shortens the lifespan of the product. Rapid tooling is mainly used for specific needs including prototyping and troubleshooting existing problems. Rapid prototyping is not often used for large scale and long term operations for a part. Zhongshan (; ) is a prefecture-level city in the south of the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong province, China.
