Stanley M. Burstein
Stanley Mayer Burstein is a historian whose writings primarily concern the Hellenistic period. He is Professor Emeritus of history at California State University, Los Angeles, and the former Chair of the Department of History. He also served as secretary-treasurer and president of the Association of Ancient Historians. Life Stanley Mayer Burstein was born on September 16, 1941 in Massachusetts. He married in 1966 and had two children. He received a PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles. He wrote many textbooks which are used by Common Core including ''The World from 1000 BCE to 300 CE'' and ''A Brief History of Ancient Greece, International Edition: Politics, Society, and Culture''. Hellenistic Period
In Classical antiquity, the Hellenistic period covers the time in Mediterranean history after Classical Greece, between the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC and the emergence of the Roman Empire, as signified by the Battle of Actium in 31 BC and the conquest of Ptolemaic Egypt the following year. The Association of Ancient Historians (AAH) is the oldest and largest academic organization in the US for scholars of the history of the Ancient Mediterranean World. The Common Core State Standards Initiative, also known as simply Common Core, is an educational initiative from 2010 that details what K–12 students throughout the United States should know in English language arts and mathematics at the conclusion of each school grade.
