Stanislav Brebera
Stanislav Brebera (10 August 1925 – 11 May 2012) was a Czech chemist. He was born in Přelouč and died in Pardubice. Brebera spent his career in Czechoslovakian state-hold ''Research Institute for Chemical Industry'', currently Explosia Pardubice. He is best known for the developing the plastic explosive known as Semtex Semtex is a general-purpose plastic explosive containing RDX and PETN. Přelouč
Přelouč () is a town in Pardubice District in the Pardubice Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 9,300 inhabitants. Administrative parts Villages of Klenovka, Lhota, Lohenice, Mělice, Škudly, Štěpánov and Tupesy are administrative parts of Přelouč. Tupesy forms an exclave of the municipal territory. Etymology The name is derived from Czech ''přes louku'', i.e. "across the meadow". It refers to the place where people walked across the meadows. Pardubice (; german: Pardubitz) is a city in the Czech Republic. It has about 89,000 inhabitants. It is the capital city of the Pardubice Region and lies on the Elbe River. Plastic Explosive
Plastic explosive is a soft and hand-moldable solid form of explosive material. Within the field of explosives engineering, plastic explosives are also known as putty explosives or blastics. Plastic explosives are especially suited for explosive demolition. Common plastic explosives include Semtex and C-4. The first manufactured plastic explosive was gelignite in 1875, invented by Alfred Nobel. Usage Plastic explosives are especially suited for explosive demolition of obstacles and fortifications by engineers, combat engineers and criminals as they can be easily formed into the best shapes for cutting structural members and have a high enough velocity of detonation and density for metal cutting work. Semtex is a general-purpose plastic explosive containing RDX and PETN. It is used in commercial blasting, demolition, and in certain military applications. Semtex was developed and manufactured in Czechoslovakia, originally under the name B 1 and then under the "Semtex" designation since 1964, labeled as ''SEMTEX 1A'', since 1967 as ''SEMTEX H'', and since 1987 as ''SEMTEX 10''. Originally developed for Czechoslovak military use and export, Semtex eventually became popular with paramilitary groups and rebels or terrorists because prior to 2000 it was extremely difficult to detect, as in the case of Pan Am Flight 103.
