Stan Thomas (American Football)
Stan Thomas (born October 28, 1968) is an American former professional football player who was an offensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) for four seasons for the Chicago Bears and Houston Oilers from 1991 to 1994, and prior to that played four years of college football at the University of Texas. College career He was a 3-year starter as tackle, including his freshman year, when the Longhorns won the last Bluebonnet Bowl game ever in 1987, but did not play his sophomore year. In his senior year at Texas, he was 1st-team All Southwest Conference and a 2nd Team All-American on a team that won the Southwest Conference Championship and played for the National Championship in the Cotton Bowl. He took heat for predicting a win and calling Miami arrogant, especially after Texas was beaten soundly. In 1990 he was named a UPI All-American Team Honorable Mention. A tackle is a playing position in American football. Historically, in the one-platoon system prevalent in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, a tackle played on both offense and defense. In the modern system of specialized units, offensive tackle and defensive tackle are separate positions, and the stand-alone term "tackle" refers to the offensive tackle position only. The offensive tackle (OT, T), sometimes specified as left tackle (LT) or right tackle (RT), is a position on the offensive line that flanks the two guards. Robert Wayne Thomas (born July 17, 1980) is an American former professional football player who was a linebacker for seven seasons in the National Football League (NFL) during the early 2000s. He played college football for the UCLA Bruins, earning recognition as a consensus All-American in 2001. The St. Louis Rams selected him in the first round of the 2002 NFL draft, and he played professionally for the Rams, Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders of the NFL. Hicham El-Mashtoub (; May 11, 1972 – September 16, 2021) was a Lebanese-Canadian gridiron football center who played two seasons with the Houston Oilers of the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Oilers in the sixth round of the 1995 NFL draft after playing college football at the University of Arizona. James Paul "Jimbo" Covert (born March 22, 1960) is an American former professional football player who was an offensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) for eight seasons with the Chicago Bears. He played college football for the Pittsburgh Panthers, earning consensus All-American honors. He was selected in the first round of the 1983 NFL draft. Early life Covert was born in Conway, Pennsylvania. He excelled in both football and wrestling at Freedom Area High School in Beaver County, west of Pittsburgh.
