The Salzungen Werra Upland () is a natural region in Germany that forms part of the East Hesse Highlands in the German states of Hesse and Thuringia. Location The Salzungen Werra Upland lies on either side of the Werra near Bad Salzungen. It has a plateau-like character, lies at a height of between 350 and and extends from the northwestern Thuringian Forest (to the east), to the Kuppen Rhön (to the west) and the forest of Seulingswald (to the northwest). It accompanies the River Werra on both sides from Walldorf (Werra), Walldorf to Vacha, Germany, Vacha, continuing on its right bank only as far as Gerstungen. Geology The upland's main rock is bunter sandstone, from which emerge several, less volcanic ''kuppen'' like the Pleß (mountain), Pleß and Stoffelskuppe, whose phenotype presages the Kuppen Rhön that lies to the west. Suhl (Werra)
Suhl () is a river of Thuringia, Germany. It flows into the Werra near Berka/Werra. The river has its source in the municipality of Moorgrund, west of Etterwinden on the western slope of the Pfaffenberg. The Suhl then flows through Kupfersuhl, Ettenhausen an der Suhl, where it is crossed by the Werra railway, and the Lindigshof to Marksuhl. Between Ettenhausen and Lindigshof, the Suhl is dammed up in the Ettenhausen dam, which was built at the end of the 1980s. Marksuhl is the largest town in the Suhl valley. West of Marksuhl follow the villages of Wünschensuhl, Fernbreitenbach, Hausbreitenbach and Herda, all districts of the Werra-Suhl valley. In Hausbreitenbach the Suhl fed a pond which surrounded the former moated castle of . Below the Berka industrial estate the Suhl then flows into the Werra between Berka and Gerstungen.
