Stadtkirche Darmstadt
The Stadtkirche Darmstadt (german: link=no, Stadtkirche Darmstadt) is the main Protestant church of the city of Darmstadt and one of its parish churches, but no longer the bishopric seat of the local Evangelische Kirche in Hessen und Nassau, which is the Pauluskirche in Darmstadt. It is the oldest church in the original city. Originally dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the actual view is the one after reconstruction following WW II. Location The church is located about south of the grand-ducal palace in Darmstadt. The Fürstengruft in the crypt contains the graves of the reigning family of Hessen-Darmstadt. Additional graves can be seen inside the church. A graveyard around the church however is no longer existent. The tower is high and one of the tallest buildings in Darmstadt. Louis, Prince Of Hesse And By Rhine
Louis, Prince of Hesse and by Rhine (''Ludwig Hermann Alexander Chlodwig'', 20 November 1908 – 30 May 1968) was the youngest son of Ernest Louis, Grand Duke of Hesse by his second wife, Princess Eleonore of Solms-Hohensolms-Lich. He was a great-grandson of Queen Victoria. He succeeded his brother Georg Donatus, the last ''Hereditary Grand Duke of Hesse'', as head of the formerly grand ducal House of Hesse-Darmstadt after Georg Donatus' premature death. Louis married Margaret Campbell Geddes, daughter of Auckland Campbell Geddes, 1st Baron Geddes in 1937, on the day after the Sabena OO-AUB Ostend crash, in which his mother, brother, sister-in-law, and nephews were all killed on the way to the wedding. Michael Wollny
Michael Wollny (born 25 May 1978) is a German jazz pianist and a professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig. He has played with international musicians including Joachim Kühn, Tamar Halperin, Marius Neset, Andreas Schaerer, Émile Parisien and Vincent Peirani, and recorded award-winning albums. In his Michael Wollny Trio, he has played with percussionist and bassist Tim Lefebvre. Education Wollny took piano and violin lessons at the Musikschule Schweinfurt and at the Hermann Zilcher Conservatory in Würzburg until 1997, successfully competing in the Jugend musiziert. Billy Hart
Billy Hart (born November 29, 1940) is an American jazz drummer and educator. He is known internationally for his work with Herbie Hancock's " Mwandishi" band in the early 1970s, as well with Shirley Horn, Stan Getz, and Quest, among others. Biography Hart was born in Washington, D.C. He grew up in close proximity of the Spotlite Club, where he first heard the music of Lee Morgan, Ahmad Jamal, and Miles Davis, among others. Early on in his career he performed with Otis Redding and Sam and Dave, then with Buck Hill. Although he studied mechanical engineering at Howard University, he left school early to tour with Shirley Horn, whom Hart credits with accelerating his musical development. He was a sideman with the Montgomery Brothers (1961), Jimmy Smith (1964–1966), and Wes Montgomery (1966–68). Anke Helfrich
Anke Helfrich (born 11 November 1966) is a German jazz pianist and composer. Life and work Helfrich grew up in Windhoek, Namibia and Weinheim, Germany where she received piano lessons. She studied in the Netherlands at the Amsterdamse Hoogeschool for the Arts and in New York, where she had lessons with Kenny Barron and Larry Goldings. In 1996 Helfrich formed a trio with John Weidenmüller and Jochen Rückert, releasing her first album ''You'll See'' in 2000 with guest Mark Turner. From 2002, she toured as a trio with Martin Gjakonovski and Dejan Terzic (jazz drummer). Since 1999 she has lectured at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Mannheim, and since 2011 at Dr. Hoch's Conservatory in Frankfurt. In 2006 her CD Better Times Ahead was nominated for the German Record Critics' Quarterly Prize. Rainer Böhm (pianist)
Rainer Böhm (23 February 1952 – 21 May 2013) was a German composer. Life Born in Berlin, Böhm studied composition and conducting at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler". Afterwards he was a master student for composition at the Academy of Arts, Berlin. In 1984 he became musical director at the Berliner Ensemble. He worked with theatre directors such as Heiner Müller, , and Manfred Wekwerth. He also wrote several scores for the documentary film director Volker Koepp. Böhm died in Berlin at the age of 61. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Jazz is characterized by swing and blue notes, complex chords, call and response vocals, polyrhythms and improvisation. Jazz has roots in European harmony and African rhythmic rituals. Duchess Louise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (Luise Auguste Wilhelmine Amalie; 10 March 1776 – 19 July 1810) was Queen of Prussia as the wife of King Frederick William III. The couple's happy, though short-lived, marriage produced nine children, including the future monarchs Frederick William IV of Prussia and Wilhelm I, German Emperor.
