The Stadium Lokomotīve formerly the Latvijas Spīdveja Centrs is a 150,000 capacity motorcycle speedway stadium in the central part of Daugavpils, Latvia. History The stadium is a regular venue for the World Championship round known as the Speedway Grand Prix of Latvia. The speedway track opened on 17 November 1963 and is 373 metres in size. The stadium hosts the leading Latvian motorcycle speedway team known as Lokomotiv Daugavpils, who race in the Polish leagues. Daugavpils (see also other names) is a state city in southeastern Latvia, located on the banks of the Daugava River, from which the city derives its name. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . Grigory Laguta
Grigory Grigorievich Laguta (born 9 April 1984) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Russia. He is a six-times champion of Russia. Career Laguta is a six-time Russian Champion winning the title in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2022 and 2023. Laguta previously held two speedway licences: Russian (MFR) and Latvian (LaMSF). This allowed him to become a four times champion of Latvia. In 2017, he was suspended for two years for a doping violation after having used meldonium. However, he later returned and in 2023, won his sixth Russian national title, which took him to just one win behind the Mikhail Starostin in the all-time list of winners. The Speedway Grand Prix of Latvia is a motorcycle speedway event that is a part of the Speedway Grand Prix series (the world championship). History From 2006 until 2017 the Grand Prix was held at the Latvijas Spīdveja Centrs in Daugavpils. In 2023, the event returned to Latvia but at the new venue known as Riga Speedway Stadium. Lokomotīve Daugavpils, also known as Lokomotiv Daugavpils, is a Latvian motorcycle speedway team based in Daugavpils who race in the Polish Speedway Second League (2. Liga). Stadium Stadium Lokomotīve (former name Spīdveja centrs) is located at Jelgavas iela 54, Daugavpils. Its capacity is 10,000 seats. The track is 373 metres long and has a granite surface. The track record was set by Grigory Laguta (66.01 sec on 30 May 2010). History Founded in 1963, the club began league speedway in 1964, as part of the Soviet Union Championship. They won the silver medal in 1970 and 1971. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union the team continued to race in the Russian Team Speedway Championship, due to the lack of a team competition in Latvia. The Team Speedway Polish Championship ( Polish: ''Drużynowe Mistrzostwa Polski, DMP'') is an annual speedway event held each year in different Polish clubs organized by the Polish Motor Union (PZM) since 1948. In 2000, the First Division was renamed Ekstraliga, and the number of teams was reduced. The team winning the league is awarded a gold medal and declared Polish Team Champions. Tomasz Bajerski (born 9 September 1975 in Toruń, Poland) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Poland. He earned three international caps for the Poland national speedway team. Career Bajerski rode in the 2003 Speedway Grand Prix. He was won Team Speedway Polish Championship, Team Polish Champion title in 2001 and Individual Speedway Junior Polish Championship, Individual U-21 Polish Champion titles in 1993 and 1996. Adrian Miedziński
Adrian Miedziński (born 20 August 1985 in Toruń, Poland) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Poland. He earned four international caps for the Poland national speedway team. Career Miedziński started riding in Poland during 2002 when he made his debut for KS Toruń, he would go on to ride 16 consecutive seasons of the club and all in the Ekstraliga. In between he made his British league debut for Eastbourne Eagles in 2004, won the Individual Speedway Junior Polish Championship (in 2005) and won the Team Speedway Junior World Championship (in 2006). After riding for the Swindon Robins in 2006 he joined the Oxford Cheetahs for the 2007 season but was left without a British club following Oxford's withdrawal from the league.
