The Nicolae Rainea Stadium, formerly known as Dunărea Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium, frequently used for association football, football. It is located in Galați and was the home ground of CSU Dunărea de Jos Galați, CSU Galați and FCM Dunărea Galaţi, Dunărea Galaţi, among others. The stadium holds 23,000 people. Nicolae Rainea (19 November 1933 – 1 April 2015), nicknamed ''The Locomotive of the Carpathians'', was a Romanian football (soccer), football referee and Football player, player. Among the most highly regarded referees of his generation, he is considered one of the best international officials of the 70s and 80s and, arguably, the finest Romanian referee of all time.
