Stadio Littorio
Stadio Giuseppe Grezar is a multi-use stadium in Trieste, Italy. It was inaugurated in 1932 as the Stadio Littorio and was initially used as the stadium of U.S. Triestina Calcio matches. The capacity of the stadium was 8,000. It hosted the match between Czechoslovakia and Romania during the 1934 FIFA World Cup. In 1943 it was renamed Stadio di Valmaura. It was renamed again in 1967, in honour of Giuseppe Grezar, a native son who was a member of the Grande Torino squad that perished in the Superga air disaster of 1949. It was replaced by the nearby Stadio Nereo Rocco in 1992, but the Stadio Giuseppe Grezar remains open as a minor athletics venue. The 1934 FIFA World Cup was the 2nd edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international Association football, football championship for List of men's national association football teams, senior men's national teams. Giuseppe Grezar
Giuseppe "Pino" Grezar (; 25 November 1918 – 4 May 1949) was an Italian football player, who played as a midfielder for Torino F.C. and died in the Superga air disaster together with the whole Grande Torino team. Career Grezar was born in Trieste. He played as a midfielder, debuting for Triestina. He was acquired by Torino in 1942. With Torino, Grezar played 154 times and won five consecutive Serie A '' scudetti'', until dying with most of the team in the Superga air disaster near Turin, in May 1949. The Superga air disaster (, "Tragedy of Superga") occurred on 4 May 1949, when a Fiat G.212 of Avio Linee Italiane (Italian Airlines), carrying the entire Torino F.C., Torino association football, football team (popularly known as the ''Grande Torino''), crashed into the retaining wall at the back of the Basilica of Superga, which stands on a hill on the outskirts of Turin. Stadio Nereo Rocco
Stadio Nereo Rocco is a football stadium in Trieste, Italy. Opened in 1992, it is the home of Triestina, named after the club's former player and manager Nereo Rocco. The stadium is located in the Valmaura district on the southern outskirts of the city, close to the club's former venue Stadio Giuseppe Grezar. Originally built with a capacity of 26,000, renovations done in 2018 before the venue hosted matches of the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship reduced the capacity to 21,000. Cagliari played their final home games of the 2011–12 Serie A season at the ground, due to restoration of their Stadio Sant'Elia.
