St Mary's GAA (Carbery)
St Mary's GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the villages of Ballineen and Enniskeane, County Cork, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Founded in 1968, the club participates in both Gaelic football and hurling competitions. The club is a member of the Carbery GAA, Carbery division of Cork GAA. In 2009, the club won its first West Cork Junior A Football Championship. The club won the same competition in 2014, along with the Junior A Football league and Junior C Football league. The club has undertaken some joint fundraising activities with the local Enniskeane camogie club. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sports, amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball, and GAA rounders. Ballineen And Enniskeane
The twin villages of Ballineen () and Enniskeane, or Enniskean, () in County Cork in Ireland are southwest of Cork city, on the R586 road. The linear settlement lies on the River Bandon between Bandon and Dunmanway. The combined settlement is designated as a 'key village' by Cork County Council for planning purposes and, as of the 2022 census, had a population of 766 people. Etymology Ballineen derives its name from the Irish, ''Béal Átha Fhínín'', meaning 'mouth of Fineen's ford'. Enniskean derives its name from the Irish, ''Inis Céin'', meaning 'island of Cian'. It takes this name from Cian Maol Muadh, a member of the O'Mahony family and local chieftain. Cian married Sábh, the daughter of the High King of Ireland Brian Boru, and resided at Castlelands, Enniskean. Gaelic football (; short name '')'', commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA, or football, is an Irish team sport. A form of football, it is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or palming the ball into the other team's Goal (sport), goal (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goal and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Carbery GAA
Carbery GAA is a Gaelic football and Hurling division in the south-west area of County Cork, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The division is one of eight divisions of Cork GAA, the Cork County Board and a division is responsible for organising competitions for the clubs within the division from Under 12 up to adult level The winners of these competitions compete against other divisional champions to determine which club is the county champion.
