St Andrews Beach House
The St Andrews Beach House is a residential building located in St Andrews Beach on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. Designed by Australian architect Sean Godsell in the Australian contemporary style, the house was awarded the Robin Boyd Award in 2006. Description St Andrews Beach House is a three-bedroom, two-story structure that is elevated to engage with the views over the ocean. The form and colour are designed to harmonise with the surrounding landscape. The structure is designed to withstand punishing summer sun as well as the gale-force winter winds whipping across the beach front elevation. The plan consists of two distinct elements: a communal kitchen/meals/living space and a bedroom block. This defines the separated public and private spaces in the house. St Andrews Beach is a coastal village in the southern extremity of the Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Mornington Peninsula local government area. The Mornington Peninsula is a peninsula located south of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is surrounded by Port Phillip to the west, Western Port to the east and Bass Strait to the south, and is connected to the mainland in the north. Sean Godsell
Sean Godsell (born 9 September 1960) is an Australian architect. Biography Godsell was born in Melbourne, Australia, the son of David Godsell, also an architect. In his early years he lived in Beaumaris and attended Kostka Hall a preparatory school to Xavier College where he completed his secondary education. He later studied at the University of Melbourne, graduating in 1984. He also undertook postgraduate study at RMIT. From 1986 to 1988 he worked in the London office of Sir Denys Lasdun, returning to Australia in 1989. In 1994, In 1980 and 1981, Godsell played for St Kilda in the Victorian Football League. He made two VFL appearance and kicked two goals. A breezeway is an architectural feature similar to a hallway that allows the passage of a breeze between structures to accommodate high winds, allow aeration, or provide aesthetic design variation. It is a pedestrian walkway because it is intended for walking between two structures. Often a breezeway is a simple roof connecting two structures (such as a house and a garage); sometimes it can be much more like a tunnel with windows on either side. It may also refer to a hallway between two wings of a larger building – such as between a house and a garage – that lacks heating and cooling but allows sheltered passage. The Chicago Athenaeum is a private museum of architecture and design, based in Galena, Illinois. The museum focuses on the art of design in all areas of the discipline: architecture, industrial and product design, graphics, landscape architecture, and urban planning. Among its goals is to advance public education on how design can positively impact the human environment. The museum awards numerous prizes for architecture and design.
