St. Joseph Swing Bridge
The St. Joseph Swing Bridge (also known as the St. Joseph Union Pacific Bridge and the St. Joseph-Elwood Bridge) is a Union Pacific Railroad truss bridge, truss Swing bridge connecting St. Joseph, Missouri, and Elwood, Kansas. History The first bridge on the location was built by the St. Joseph Bridge Building Company and cost $716,000 (of which St. Joseph had paid $500,000) and opened on May 20, 1873, with a crossing by the St. Joseph & Denver City Railroad. The original bridge had six piers with three spans of 300 feet, one fixed span of 80 feet on the east end and a draw span of 3,654 feet makin the total span of 1,345 feet. Rulo Bridge
The Rulo Bridge is the name for whatever bridge crosses Missouri River on U.S. Route 159 (US 159) from the village of Rulo in Richardson County, Nebraska, to Holt County, Missouri, west of Big Lake. 1939 Bridge The old Rulo bridge was a truss bridge built in 1939 by the Works Progress Administration and Kansas City Bridge Company and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. U.S. Route 36 (US 36) is an east–west United States highway that travels approximately from Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado to Uhrichsville, Ohio. The highway's western terminus is at Deer Ridge Junction, an intersection in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, where it meets US 34. Its eastern terminus is at US 250 in Uhrichsville, Ohio. Pony Express Bridge
The Pony Express Bridge is a highway girder bridge over the Missouri River connecting Elwood, Kansas with St. Joseph, Missouri on U.S. Route 36 (US 36). The bridge is referred to in signage as Pony Express Bridges because there are separate bridges for east and west bound traffic. The bridges were built in 1983 to replace a truss bridge built in 1929. The truss bridge was demolished in March 1984. The bridge is near the Pony Express stables at its eastern terminus in St. Joseph. US 36 to Marysville, Kansas is designated the ''Pony Express Memorial Highway'' because it follows the route.
