St. Joseph's Secondary C.B.S., Fairview
St Joseph's, Fairview, sometimes St Joseph's C.B.S., and previously St Joseph's Secondary Christian Brothers' School, is a co-educational Secondary school#Republic of Ireland, secondary school in Fairview, Dublin, Ireland, having been Single-sex education, boys-only until 2023. The school was in the patronage of the Irish Christian Brothers; the patron is now the Edmund Rice Schools Trust. History Early years St Joseph's Congregation of Christian Brothers, Christian Brothers' School, Fairview was founded in 1888. It was originally a training school where Christian Brothers learned to teach before moving on to other schools. At this time, it contained only three classrooms and taught junior classes. In 1890, one of the classes was given over to Intermediate Cert level. Br. J.M. Costen became the first headmaster of the school. Simon Behan
Simon P. Behan (1941 – 26 January 2009) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for club side St. Vincent's and at inter-county level with the Dublin senior football team. Career A product of the first-ever Hogan Cup-winning St. Joseph's CBS team, Behan's performances quickly brought him to the notice of the county selectors and he was a substitute on the Dublin minor team that won the All-Ireland Championship in 1958 when Mayo were beaten in the final. Behan broke onto the minor starting fifteen and claimed a second successive title the following year before lining out with the Dublin junior team in 1960. Around this time he also win the first of three County Championship titles with St. Vincent's before being included on the Dublin senior team. Michael Joseph Cosgrave (9 March 1938 – 9 January 2022) was an Irish Fine Gael politician who served as a Teachta Dála (TD) from 1977 to 1992 and 1997 to 2002. Cosgrave was born on 9 March 1938. He was educated at St. Joseph's Secondary CBS in Fairview, at the School of Management Studies in Rathmines, and at University College Dublin. He was first elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fine Gael TD for the Dublin Clontarf constituency at the 1977 general election. When that constituency was abolished, Cosgrave was elected as TD for Dublin North-East at the 1981 general election. The Irish Citizen Army (), or ICA, was a paramilitary group first formed in Dublin to defend the picket lines and street demonstrations of the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union (ITGWU) against the police during the Great Dublin Lockout of 1913. Subsequently, under the leadership of James Connolly, the ICA participated in the Irish Republican insurrection of Easter 1916. Following the Easter Rising, the death of James Connolly and the departure of Jim Larkin, the ICA largely sidelined itself during the Irish War of Independence by choosing to only offer material support to the Irish Republican Army and not become directly involved itself. Sean Connolly
Sean Connolly () was an Irish republican, socialist and Abbey Theatre actor who took part in the Easter Rising. He was a captain in the Irish Citizen Army and was the first rebel to be killed during the Rising. Early life and family Connolly was born in Sandymount, Dublin in 1882. Seán Coen (born 1941) is an Irish retired Gaelic footballer who played for club side St. Vincent's and at inter-county level with the Dublin senior football team.
