St. James The Apostle Archcathedral Basilica
The St. James the Apostle Archcathedral Basilica (; ) is a Gothic architecture, Gothic cathedral located in Szczecin, Poland and seat of the Archdiocese of Szczecin-Kamień. Built in the 12th-14th centuries, it is the second tallest church in Poland, the largest church in the region of West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Western Pomerania, and one of the most distinctive landmarks of the Szczecin Old Town. History The church was established in 1187 and the Romanesque architecture, Romanesque-style building was completed in the 14th century. The church was built by the citizens of the city and modeled after the St. Mary's Church, Lübeck, Church of St. Mary in Lübeck. In ca. 1220 List of Pomeranian duchies and dukes, Pomeranian Duke Bogislaw II, Duke of Pomerania, Bogislaw II was buried in the cathedral. Szczecin ( , , ; ; ; or ) is the capital city, capital and largest city of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in northwestern Poland. Located near the Baltic Sea and the Poland-Germany border, German border, it is a major port, seaport, the largest city of northwestern Poland, and seventh-largest city of Poland. the population was 391,566.
