St. Isidore Church, Renavas
St. Isidore Church (, Samogitian: ''Šv. Ėzėduoriaus bažnīče'') is a Roman Catholic church in Renavas, Lithuania. It is located near the road Židikai–Seda. History The construction of the church started in 1918 after Lithuania re-established its independence. However, after the walls of 2.5 m height were built, the construction stopped. The works began to continue only in 1929 and the construction was completed in 1933. Because of lack of money and in order to finish the project, constructors of the church refused exterior decoration foreseen in the primary projects. Consequently, the outside walls were made only of concrete. The Church was consecrated on 12 June 1933 by the first bishop of Telšiai Justinas Staugaitis. Renavas ( Samogitian: ''Rėnavs'', pl, Renowo) is a village in Mažeikiai District Municipality, Lithuania. It is located on the left bank of Varduva river, nearby the road Židikai-Seda. The village is known for its 16th century manor. History The manor was first mentioned in the 16th century. The current manor was built around 1880. In 1933 St. Isidore Church was built. The village operates a high school, library and hydroelectric plant. Samogitian ( sgs, žemaitiu kalba, link=no or sometimes ', ''žemaitiu šnekta'' or '; lt, žemaičių tarmė, žemaičių kalba) is an Eastern Baltic language spoken mostly in Samogitia (in the western part of Lithuania). In Lithuania, it is mostly treated as a dialect of Lithuanian, but it is also considered as a separate language by some linguists inside and outside of Lithuania. Židikai ( Samogitian: ''Žėdėkā'') is a town in Mažeikiai district municipality, Lithuania. It is located 21 km west of Mažeikiai. Židikai is the seat of Židikai elderate. Židikai is known for being the home of Marija Pečkauskaitė – Šatrijos Ragana, a famous Lithuanian writer (1877–1930) for the last 15 years of her lifetime. Seda, Lithuania
Seda () is a city in Mažeikiai district municipality, Lithuania. It is south-west of Mažeikiai on the Varduva River. There are two churches in the town. History According to Kazimieras Būga, the name of Seda is of hydronymic origin and was derived from the name of nearby Lake Seda also known as Sedula. Seda was first mentioned in written sources in the 13th century. From the 15th century Seda was famous as a busy trade settlement with Livonia. Justinas Staugaitis
Justinas Staugaitis (14 November 1866 near Šakiai – 8 July 1943, Telšiai) was a Lithuanian Roman Catholic bishop, politician, educator, and author. He was one of the twenty signatories to the Act of Independence of Lithuania. Staugaitis graduated from the Sejny Theological Seminary and was ordained in 1890. At that time, the use of the written Lithuanian language was prohibited, and his cousin Antanas Saugaitis participated in the underground movements that smuggled in such books and periodicals (see Knygnešiai). He then served as a curate in a number of parishes in Lithuania and Poland. In Marijampolė, he founded the educational Žiburys Society, and was instrumental in founding several schools, an old age home, and an orphanage.
