The St. Cloud Rox are a baseball team that play in the Northwoods League, a Collegiate summer baseball, collegiate summer baseball league. Their home games are played at the Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Beginnings in Dubuque The franchise was one of the five founding members of the league in 1994 and was located in Dubuque, Iowa. The team was nicknamed the Mud Puppies. Return of baseball to St. Cloud St. Cloud, Minnesota has hosted baseball for decades at a variety of play levels. Baseball returned to the city in 1997 in the Northwoods League with the relocation of the Mud Puppies. With the move came a new name for the team, the St. Cloud River Bats. Northwoods League
The Northwoods League is a collegiate summer baseball wooden bat league. All players in the league must have National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA eligibility remaining in order to participate. The league is amateur, and players are not paid, so as to maintain their college eligibility. Graduated senior pitchers are also eligible to play in the Northwoods League. Each team may have four of these players at a time. Teams play 72 games scheduled from Memorial Day to the 2nd Saturday in August, while the playoffs take place the week after, starting on that Sunday and ending usually on Friday. The season itself is broken into two halves, with the winners of each half in each of the four sub-divisions playing against each other to determine a sub-divisional champion in a best-of-three series. Justin Ray Huisman (born April 16, 1979) is an American former Major League Baseball relief pitcher who played for the Kansas City Royals in 2004. John David Gaub (born April 28, 1985) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher. Career Prior to playing professional baseball, Gaub attended South St. Paul High School and then the University of Minnesota. He was originally drafted by the Minnesota Twins out of high school in the 25th round of the 2003 amateur draft, however he opted not to sign.
