St. Boniface General Hospital (Winnipeg)
Saint Boniface Hospital (; also called St. B; previously called the Saint-Boniface General Hospital) is Manitoba's second-largest hospital, located in the St. Boniface neighbourhood of Winnipeg. Founded by the Sisters of Charity (Grey Nuns) of Montreal in 1871, it was the first hospital in Western Canada. The hospital was incorporated in 1960, and as of 2020 has 436 beds and 30 bassinets. The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA; , ORSW) is the governing body for healthcare regulation for the City of Winnipeg, the northern community of Churchill, and the Rural Municipalities of East and West St. Paul, in the Canadian province of Manitoba. Israel Harold "Izzy" Asper (August 11, 1932 – October 7, 2003) was a Canadian tax lawyer and media magnate. Andrei Dmitrievich Sakharov (; 21 May 192114 December 1989) was a Soviet Physics, physicist and a List of Nobel Peace Prize laureates, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, which he was awarded in 1975 for emphasizing human rights around the world. 1997 Red River Flood
The Red River flood of 1997 was a major flood that occurred in April and May 1997 along the Red River of the North in Minnesota, North Dakota, and southern Manitoba. It was the most severe flood of the river since 1826. The flood reached throughout the Red River Valley, affecting the cities of Fargo and Winnipeg, but none so greatly as Grand Forks and East Grand Forks, where floodwaters reached more than inland. They inundated virtually everything in the twin communities. Total damages for the Red River region were US$3.5 billion. The flood was the result of abundant snowfall and extreme temperatures.
