Lambert Of Maastricht
Lambert of Maastricht, commonly referred to as Saint Lambert (; Middle Dutch: ''Sint-Lambrecht''; ; 636 – c. 705), was the bishop of Maastricht-Liège (Tongeren) from about 670 until his death. Lambert denounced Pepin's liaison with his mistress or bigamous wife Alpaida, the mother of Charles Martel. The bishop was murdered during the political turmoil that developed when various families fought for influence as the Merovingian dynasty gave way to the Carolingians. He is considered a martyr for his defence of marriage. His feast day is September 17. Life Very little is known about the life of Lambert. According to the 14th-century chronicle-writer Jean d'Outremeuse he was the son of Apre, lord of Loon, and his wife Herisplindis, both from noble families of Maastricht. The child was baptized by his godfather, the local bishop Remaclus, and educated by Landoald, archpriest of the city and head of the noble abbey school in Wintershoven. Saint-Lambert-de-Lauzon () is a municipality in La Nouvelle-Beauce Regional County Municipality in Quebec, Canada. It is part of the Chaudière-Appalaches region and the population is 6,177 as of the Canada 2011 Census. Prior to June 22, 2013 it was a parish municipality. It is named after Pierre Lambert, a land surveyor who planned neighbouring Lévis. Lauzon refers to the '' seigneurie'' of Lauzon, the first to be established on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River in 1636. History The parish municipality of Saint-Lambert-de-Lauzon was established July 1, 1855, from the disbanded county of Dorchester. Saint-Lambert-sur-Dive (, literally ''Saint-Lambert on Dive'') is a commune in the Orne department in north-western France. Significance Saint-Lambert-sur-Dive is recognised as the place where the 4th Canadian Armoured Division (specifically the South Alberta Regiment and Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders of Canada) fought tenaciously in the closing stages of the Battle of Normandy. It is the place where Major David Vivian Currie won his Victoria Cross. The action centred on the stone bridge across the Dives and later, down to the ford at Moissy, both of which provided the Germans with escape routes across the river. The commune has a memorial called the Belvédère des Canadiens or Canadian lookout which overlooks the key area of the battlefield and explains the history of the battle. Saint-Lambert International High School (previously known as Chambly Academy or Chambly County High School) is a public secondary school, in Saint-Lambert, Quebec, Canada. It is located at 675 Green Street and borders the Club De Golf St-Lambert. It is the only English-language secondary school in Saint Lambert and is part of the Riverside School Board. It offers an International Baccalaureate program, and has had a student population ranging from 400 to 750 students (during a baby boom peak in the early 1970s). The school is currently home to approximately 500 students. History The first St. Lambert High School was built on the corner of Green and Notre-Dame streets in 1896.
