Srđan Popović
Srđan Popović (, ; born 16 September 1978) is a Kosovar and Serbian politician who is currently serving as the mayor of Gračanica, a Serbian enclave in Kosovo since 2017. Biography Early life and career Popović was born in 1978 in Pristina which at that time was a part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. He finished middle and high school in Pristina and graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Priština. During the Kosovo War he was a volunteer in the NGO Center for Peace and Tolerance and worked as a coordinator of humanitarian aid. After the war he worked for OSCE as an educator for the Serb members of the election committee. He also worked as a coordinator for the displaced people from the war and was active within the Serbian enclaves. Gračanica, Kosovo
Gračanica ( sr-cyr, Грачаница) or Graçanicë ( sq-definite, Graçanica), is a town and municipality located in Pristina District in Kosovo. As of 2024, the town has a population of 18,486 inhabitants. It is centered around the Gračanica Monastery, ten kilometers east of Pristina. The 1999 Kosovo War and its aftermath transformed Gračanica from a sleepy village into an administrative center serving the needs of the 75,000 Kosovo Serbs living south of the Ibar River. After the 2013 Brussels Agreement, the municipality was expected to become part of a proposed Community of Serb Municipalities, however the agreement was never implemented as it was deemed unconstitutional. Kosovo War
The Kosovo War (; sr-Cyrl-Latn, Косовски рат, Kosovski rat) was an armed conflict in Kosovo that lasted from 28 February 1998 until 11 June 1999. It was fought between the forces of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY), which controlled Kosovo before the war, and the Kosovo Albanian separatist militia known as the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). The conflict ended when the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) intervened by beginning air strikes in March 1999 which resulted in Yugoslav forces withdrawing from Kosovo. The Government of Kosovo (, ) exercises executive authority in the Republic of Kosovo. It is composed of government ministers, and is led by the prime minister. The prime minister is elected by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo. Ministers are nominated by the prime minister and then confirmed by the assembly.
