Sri Lankan Literature
Sri Lankan literature is the literary tradition of Sri Lanka. The largest part of Sri Lankan literature was written in the Sinhala language, but there is a considerable number of works in other languages used in Sri Lanka over the millennia (including Tamil, Pāli, and English). However, the languages used in ancient times were very different from the language used in Sri Lanka now. Up to the present, short stories are a very important part of Sri Lankan literature; the output of Sinhalese short story writers has elicited a greater measure of critical analysis. Ediriweera Sarachchandra
Veditantirige Ediriweera Ranjitha Sarachchandra (born Veditantirige Eustace Reginold de Silva; 3 June 1914 – 16 August 1996), popularly known as Ediriweera Sarachchandra ), was a Sri Lankan playwright, novelist, poet, literary critic, essayist and social commentator. Considered as the premier playwright in Sri Lanka, Sarachchandra produced several critically acclaimed theatre plays in a career spanning more than four decades. He also served as a senior lecturer at the University of Peradeniya for many years and as Sri Lankan Ambassador to France from 1974 to 1977. Personal life Sarachchandra was born on 3 June 1914 in Dodanduwa, Rathgama, Galle, Sri Lanka. Nalin De Silva
Thakurartha Devadithya Guardiyawasam Lindamulage Nalin Kumar de Silva ( Sinhala: නලින් ද සිල්වා; 20 October 1944 – 1 May 2024) was a Sri Lankan philosopher, polymath and a political analyst. He was the former Sri Lankan ambassador in Myanmar. He was a professor in the department of mathematics, a member of University Grant Commission and the dean of the faculty of science at the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. Wimalaratne Kumaragama
Wimalaratne Kumaragama (January 18, 1919 – December 30, 1962) was a prominent Sri Lankan poet, of the Colombo era. A Divisional Revenue Officer (DRO) by profession, his poems were centred around Wanni and its people. They evoke the life of the village and its characters, surroundings, environment, animals and experiences. Thotagamuwe Sri Rahula Thera
Thotagamuwe Sri Rahula Thera (1408 – 1491) was a Buddhist monk and an eminent scholar, who lived in the 15th century in Sri Lanka. He was a polyglot who was given the title "''Shad Bhasha Parameshwara''" due to his mastery in six oriental languages which prevailed in the Indian subcontinent. Saman Tilakasiri
Saman Tilakasiri (11 August 1928 – 5 January 2000) was a Sri Lankan poet, journalist, senior editor, lyricist, art critique and an award-winning author of books in multiple disciplines. Henaka Arachchillage Saman Tilakasiri was born on 11 August 1928, in Kegalla area in Devalegama, Nawagamuwa the son of Henaka Arachchilage Appuhami Senanayake and Bamunu Arachchige Tikiri Menika . His early education was at Navagamuwa Buddhist Mixed School (Nawagamuwa Bodu Musu Paasala). This was the school planned and built by his elder brother H. M. Palansuriya Mohottalalage Dingiri Mahaththaya (, known as Sagara Palansuriya () in later life, was a Sri Lankan poet, teacher and Member of Parliament. Karunaratne Premathilake (; 20 September 1918 – 12 July 1965), popularly known as Meemana Premathilake was a prominent Sri Lankan poet, journalist and a writer. One of the most respected poets in Colombo era, Premathilake is notable as the founding editor of Sri Lanka's premier artistic newspaper 'Sarasaviya'.
