Sri Lankan Chetties
Sri Lankan Chetties (, ) also known as Colombo Chetties, are an ethnicity in the island of Sri Lanka. Before 2001, they were classified as a Sri Lankan Tamils, Sri Lankan Tamil caste, but then after 2001, they were classified as a separate ethnic group in the 2001 census. They are now collectively referred to as the Colombo Chetties. They were said to have migrated from India under Portuguese Ceylon, Portuguese rule and were given special rights and representation during colonial rule. In modern times, the Chetties have been assimilated either into Sinhala or Tamil resp. Sri Lankan Vellalar, Vellalar society. Most Chetties grow in Sinhala language, Sinhala backgrounds. ''Hetti'' is another term used in this context, referring to the present generation of Chetties who do not have any relation to India but are solely from Sri Lanka. Nallur, Jaffna
Nallur (; ) is an affluent suburb in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. It is located 3 km south from Jaffna city centre. Nallur is most famous for Nallur Kandaswamy temple, one of Sri Lanka's most sacred place of pilgrimage for Sri Lankan Hindus. Nallur is also famous for being the historical capital of the old Jaffna Kingdom and birthplace of renowned philosopher and theologian, Arumuka Navalar. Nagarathar
Nagarathar (நகரத்தார்) is a Tamil caste found native in Tamil Nadu, India. The Nagarathar community was not originally a single caste, but developed from an assortment of related subcastes, which over time became known under the umbrella term Nagarathar. Bharatakula
Bharatha People (, ) also known as Bharatakula and Paravar, is an ethnicity in the island of Sri Lanka. Earlier considered a caste of the Sri Lankan Tamils, they were classified as separate ethnic group in the 2001 census. They are descendant of Tamil speaking Paravar of Southern India who migrated to Sri Lanka under Portuguese rule. They live mainly on the western coast of Sri Lanka and mainly found in the cities of Mannar, Negombo and Colombo. Jeyaraj Fernandopulle
Jeyaraj Fernandopulle (, , 11 January 1953 – 6 April 2008) was a Sri Lankan politician who served as a cabinet Minister and a Member of Parliament in Sri Lanka. He was a Roman Catholic and hailed from a minority ethnic group Colombo Chetties. Early life Fernandopulle was born on the 11 January 1953 in Welihena, Kochchikade (about 12 km north of Negombo). He has done the preliminary education (up to grade 1) at ''Ave Maria Convent'', Negombo, then entered '' Maris Stella College'', Negombo for primary and secondary education. In 1972 Fernandopulle became a Maths and Science teacher after leaving the school, but left teaching to become a lawyer in 1974. Simon Casie Chetty
Simon Casie Chetty (; 21 March 1807 – 5 November 1860) was a Ceylonese civil servant, author and member of the Legislative Council of Ceylon. Early life and family Casie Chetty was born on 21 March 1807 in Kalpity in north-western Ceylon. He was the son of Gabriel Casie Chetty, Mudaliyar of Kalpity, and Marie de Rosairo. He belonged to Ceylon's small Chetty community, descendants of Tamils from Tirunelveli district in India who migrated to Ceylon during Portuguese rule and converted to Catholicism. Gabriel's father Adrian converted to Protestantism during Dutch rule and was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church. Simon Casie Chetty was baptised as an Anglican in Colombo. The Commander of the Army () is the title of the professional head of the Sri Lanka Army. The current Commander of the Army is Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo. The post's precursor was known as Commander of the Ceylon Defence Force. Anton Muttukumaru
Major General Anton Muttukumaru, OBE, ED, ADC (6 July 1908 – 2001) was the first native Ceylonese to serve as the Commander of the Ceylon Army (now Sri Lankan Army), a post he held from 1955 to 1959. He also served as Ceylon's High Commissioner to Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Ambassador to Egypt.
