Adrian Sprott
Adrian Sprott (23 March 1962 – 10 June 2023) was a Scottish footballer who played as a defender or winger for Meadowbank Thistle, Hamilton Academical and Stenhousemuir. Sprott played for Hamilton in the Scottish Premier Division as a semi-professional player, as he combined his football career with working for Lothian & Borders Police. During that period, Sprott scored a goal that knocked Rangers out of the Scottish Cup in a famous cup upset. It also ended a British record period of Rangers goalkeeper Chris Woods not conceding a goal. Sprott died on 10 June 2023, at the age of 61. Michael Sprott (born 16 January 1975) is a British former professional boxer. He held the British Boxing Board of Control, British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles in 2004 and the European Boxing Union, EBU European Union heavyweight title twice between 2005 and 2007. He was the winner of the 14th Prizefighter series. Career After a quiet amateur career, Sprott turned pro in November 1996 under the old Frank Bruno trainer, Terry Lawless. Eric Sprott (born 1944/45) is a Canadian billionaire businessman. Early life Sprott has a bachelor's degree from Carleton University. Career Sprott started his career as a research analyst with Merrill Lynch, before becoming a fund manager. In 2001, he sold his first company, Sprott Securities, to the company's staff, and donated $10 million to Carleton University, who renamed their business school, the Sprott School of Business. Sprott advised investors to buy gold before the 2008 financial crash. Following the financial crisis, gold rallied to a new all time high of over $2000/oz. Thomas Henry Sprott, OBE (26 September 1856 – 25 July 1942) was an Anglican priest in the first half of the 20th century. Life Born on 26 September 1856 at Dromore, County Down, he was educated at Trinity College, Dublin and ordained in 1879. Following curacies at Holy Trinity, Kingston upon Hull and St John the Evangelist, Waterloo Road, he became Minister of St Barnabas', Mount Eden, Auckland in 1886. From 1892 until 1911 Sprott was Vicar of St Paul's Pro-Cathedral, Wellington when he was elevated to the episcopate as the 4th bishop of Wellington, a post he held for 25 years. Described as a "a profound divine who for years tried to fathom the deeps of modern reasoning", he died on 25 July 1942. His wife Edith survived him and died in 1945, but his son (who was awarded the Military Cross in 1917) died on active service with the Norfolk Regiment in March 1918. Thomas Sprott or Spott (fl. 1292) was an English Benedictine chronicler, a monk of St Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury. Chronicles Sprott wrote a history of St Augustine's Abbey. His work was used and acknowledged by the chroniclers Thomas Elmham and William Thorne. Thorne copies him freely to 1228, where he says Sprott's share ends. He elsewhere stated that Sprott's work ended in 1272, a point that is unclear in surviving manuscripts (which had later additions, and some damage). Sir Alexander Sprot, 1st Baronet, (24 April 1853 – 8 February 1929) was a British soldier and Scottish Unionist Party politician. He served in the Second Anglo-Afghan War, the Second Boer War and World War I. During his political career, he represented the constituencies of East Fife and North Lanarkshire. Early life The only son of Alexander Sprot (1823-1854) of Garnkirk, Lanarkshire, of a family formerly of Edinburgh that owned a brick-making works, and Rachael Jane (daughter of Peter Cleghorn, of Stravithie), he was educated at Harrow School and at Trinity College, Cambridge. Military career Sprot was commissioned into the Royal Lanarkshire Militia, where he reached the rank of Lieutenant. In 1874 he was commissioned Sub-Lieutenant in the 6th Dragoon Guards. George Washington Sprott (6 March 1829 – 27 October 1909) was Scottish minister and liturgical scholar, known as an advocate of reform of the services of the Church of Scotland, and of its reunion with the Free Church of Scotland. Early life Born at Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia, on 6 March 1829, he was the eldest of five children of John Sprott, Presbyterian minister there, by his third wife, Jane Neilson.
