Springtown Independent School District
Springtown Independent School District is a public school district based in Springtown, Texas (USA) in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Located in Parker County, a small portion of the district extends into Wise County. The school mascot (dating back to the mid-1920s) is the porcupine (which is not native to the area). In a nod to the famed "MOJO" of Permian High School, the school mascot is nicknamed "POJO." In 2009, the school district was listed as a "Recognized" district by the Texas Education Agency. Operations In September 2012 the board of the district voted to allow an administrator giving a school punishment paddling of a student to be of the opposite sex of the student; the school district said this is because of a lack of female administrators. Springtown, Texas
Springtown is a town in Parker County and Wise County, Texas, United States. According to the 2020 census, the population was 3,064. History Originally named Littleton's Springs by Joseph Ward, an early settler, the community was renamed Springtown in the mid-1870s. Springtown's post office opened in 1875. Springtown was incorporated in 1884. Population growth slowed during and after the Great Depression but resumed after 1960 due to commuters to and from Fort Worth. Springtown was the site of College Hill Institute. The school was chartered by the State of Texas in 1884. It operated for ten years, and closed in 1894. Wise County, Texas
Wise County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 68,632. Its county seat is Decatur. Wise County is part of the Dallas– Fort Worth– Arlington metropolitan statistical area. Its Wise Eyes crime-watch program, eventually adopted by mostly rural counties in several states, was started in 1993 by then-Sheriff Phil Ryan. History On November 10, 1837, the Battle of the Knobs was fought in what is now Wise County between about 150 Native American warriors and 18 Republic of Texas soldiers under Lieutenant A. B. Porcupines are large rodents with coats of sharp spines, or quills, that protect them against predation. The term covers two families of animals: the Old World porcupines of family Hystricidae, and the New World porcupines of family, Erethizontidae. Permian High School
Permian High School is a public high school located in Odessa, Texas and is one of three high schools in the Ector County Independent School District. It was the subject of the book '' Friday Night Lights'', which in turn inspired a movie and TV series of the same name. History Opened in 1959, Permian High is named for the Permian Basin, the geological formation that underlies Midland and Odessa.
