Springs Valley Community School Corporation is a school district headquartered in French Lick, Indiana. It operates two schools: Springs Valley Elementary School and Springs Valley Junior-Senior High School. It covers French Lick Township, and includes French Lick and West Baden Springs, Indiana, West Baden Springs. History Circa 1938-1958 there had been discussions and proposals in the French Lick and West Baden Springs communities about forming a unified school district. In the summer of 1957 a special election put in place officials that were in favor of consolidating schools. Prior to that election, there was a group of people in French Lick who did not want consolidation and who had taken legal action to try to stop it. The district was formed in 1957, and so the schools of French Lick and West Baden Springs consolidated. The anticipated number of high school students for the first school year was 375. French Lick, Indiana
French Lick is a town in French Lick Township, Orange County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,722 at the time of the 2020 census. History French Lick was originally a French trading post built near a spring and salt lick. A fortified ranger post was established near the springs in 1811. On Johnson's 1837 map of Indiana, the community was known as Salt Spring. The town was founded in 1857. French Lick's post office has been in operation since 1847. The sulfur springs were commercially exploited for medical benefits starting in 1840. By the latter half of the 19th century, French Lick was famous in the United States as a spa town. In the early 20th century it also featured casinos attracting celebrities such as boxer Joe Louis, composer Irving Berlin and gangster Al Capone. Springs Valley Junior-Senior High School is a public high school located in French Lick, Indiana. The school is part of the Springs Valley Community School Corporation. About The school opened in 1957 after the consolidation of French Lick and West Baden High Schools. Athletics and extracurriculars Springs Valley Junior-Senior High School's athletic teams are nicknamed the "Blackhawks". In the Blackhawks' first season of 1957-58 in basketball, they advanced to the final four of the Indiana state tournament losing to the eventual state champion, Fort Wayne South Side, 55-42. Jasper is a city in and the county seat of Dubois County, Indiana, United States, located along the Patoka River. Tell City is a city in and the county seat of Troy Township, Perry County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. It is located along the Ohio River. The population was 7,506 at the 2020 census. History Tell City traces its 150+ year old roots to a meeting in Cincinnati, Ohio in November 1856. A group of Swiss-German immigrants met in Cincinnati to organize a society known as the "Swiss Colonization Society." The society's purpose was to obtain affordable homesteads for mechanics, shopkeepers, factory workers, and small farmers in a location where all could live in harmony.
