Earth is a small, rural city in Lamb County, West Texas, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 1,065. History Earth was established by William E. Halsell, who laid out the townsite in 1924. Originally Halsell named the city Fairlawn, but in 1925 it was renamed Earth when it was learned that there was already a town in Texas by the name of Fairlawn. In order to find a new name the townspeople sent in suggestions, and the agreed-upon best name was chosen. The name Earth was submitted by Ora Hume (O.H.) Reeves, who became the owner of the city hotel. Lamb County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 13,045. Its county seat is Littlefield. The county was created in 1876, but not organized until 1908. It is named for George A. Lamb, who died in the Battle of San Jacinto. Lamb County was the home of the Texas House Speaker Bill W. Castro County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 7,371. Its county seat is Dimmitt. The county was named for Henri Castro, who was consul general to France for the Republic of Texas and the founder of a colony in Texas. The county was originally created in 1876. It was organized in 1891, and a courthouse was built about the town square. Temporary county office space, meanwhile, was obtained from businessman J. N. Morrison. The ornate, two-story courthouse was completed, but was destroyed by lightning in 1906. Springlake-Earth High School is a public high school located east of Earth, Texas, United States and classified as a 1A school by the UIL. It is part of the Springlake-Earth Independent School District located in north central Lamb County and serves students from the cities of Springlake and Earth. In 2015, the school was rated " Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. History Although the school was founded as Springlake in 1924, the Earth Cack of Commerce in 1966 offered to buy a lighted sign to be placed on Highway 70 indicating the location of the school if the name of the school were changed to include Earth. The board of trustees agreed, and in that same year, the name "Springlake-Earth" was adopted.
