The Bus is a service provided by the transit division of the City Utilities of Springfield, who also provide paratransit under the name Access Express. Background Formation Springfield City Council voted unanimously to purchase of the privately owned Springfield Gas and Electric company, also the operator of the city transit system. The finalization of this transaction in 1945 marked the birth of City Utilities of Springfield, City Utilities and subsequently CU Transit. Springfield's transit system is one of the few to be operated through a city utility company. Transit centers The bus has had 2 Transport hub, transit centers in its lifetime. The first was built in 1981 on McDaniel Street and Patton Avenue. It operated from 1981 until May 9th, 2016 where operations moved to the new transit center on College and Main. City Utilities of Springfield (CU) is a community-owned utility serving southwest Missouri with electricity, natural gas, water, telecommunications and transit services. CU provides service to over 106,000 customers. CU is responsible for the generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power; the acquisition, transportation, and distribution of natural gas; and the acquisition, treatment, and distribution of water; plus the operation of the bus transportation system. RideKC
RideKC is the brand for public transportation systems in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The RideKC brand was adopted in August 2014 by the Kansas City Streetcar Authority, operators of the KC Streetcar line then under construction in Kansas City, Missouri. The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority adopted RideKC in November, followed by Johnson County Transit, IndeBus and Unified Government Transit. Buses using the RideKC livery rolled out in Kansas City and Johnson County in October 2015. UG Transit transitioned in 2016, with IndeBus co-branding for the time being.
