Springburn (ward)
Springburn/Robroyston (Ward 17) is one of the 23 Wards and electoral divisions of the United Kingdom, wards of Glasgow City Council. Created as Springburn, in 2007 and in 2012 it Election, returned three council members, using the single transferable vote system. For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the boundaries were changed, the ward increased in size and population (the latter by 20%), was renamed ''Springburn/Robroyston'' and returned four members. Springburn
Springburn () is an inner-city district in the north of the Scottish city of Glasgow, made up of generally working-class households. Springburn developed from a rural hamlet at the beginning of the 19th century. Its industrial expansion began with the establishment of a chemical works by Charles Tennant on the newly opened Monkland Canal at nearby St. Rollox in 1799, which later became part of the United Alkali Company. Later in the 19th century, the construction of railway lines through the area led to the establishment of railway works and the village became a parish in its own right. The Garnkirk and Glasgow Railway first opened in 1831 to supply the St Rollox Chemical Works and the Edinburgh & Glasgow Railway was opened in 1842. Later, the City Union Line was extended to Springburn in 1871, and the Hamiltonhill Branch Line opened in 1894. M8 Motorway (Scotland)
The M8 is the busiest motorway in Scotland. It connects the country's two largest cities, Glasgow and Edinburgh, and serves other large communities including Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, Airdrie, Coatbridge, Greenock, Livingston, Scotland, Livingston and Paisley, Renfrewshire, Paisley. Millerston
Millerston is a district partially in the Scottish city of Glasgow and partially in North Lanarkshire. It is situated north of the River Clyde, to the north of the city's Craigend, Garthamlock and Ruchazie neighbourhoods, but physically separated from them by parkland and wooded areas. It is also home to the playing fields of Glasgow's St Aloysius College and Strathclyde University. Whilst part of Millerston belongs to Glasgow City Council, the other part is served by North Lanarkshire Council. The official Millerston boundary starts at Hogganfield Loch stretching all the way down Cumbernauld Road as far as Laundry Lane but in recent times, the area has been incorporated into the larger town of Stepps which is entirely within North Lanarkshire. Balornock
Balornock (, ) is a district in the city of Glasgow, Scotland. Situated outside the city centre, north of the River Clyde, it forms part of the larger area of Springburn. Balornock shared the Red Road complex of multi-storey flats with the neighbouring district of Barmulloch; the 21 Birnie Court building (single yellow block) was in Barmulloch. The buildings were formally condemned in July 2008 after a long period of decline, with their phased demolition taking place in three stages between 2012 and 2015. Robroyston
Robroyston () is a suburb of Glasgow, Scotland, located around northeast of the city centre. To the north, it directly adjoins Auchinairn (part of Bishopbriggs) in the neighbouring East Dunbartonshire local authority area. The Glasgow neighbourhoods of Balornock and Barmulloch lie to the west, but these are largely separated from Robroyston by a nature reserve. Land to the east towards North Lanarkshire is open countryside, which has made the area a popular location for housing developments. Sighthill, Glasgow
Sighthill is a neighbourhood in the Scottish city of Glasgow. It is situated north of the River Clyde and is part of the wider Springburn district in the north of the city. It is bordered to the north by Cowlairs, to the east by the Springburn Bypass road and the Royston neighbourhood, to the west by the Glasgow to Edinburgh via Falkirk Line (running into Queen Street Station) and to the south by the Townhead interchange of the M8 Motorway. The district is primarily residential and from the mid-1960s consisted of a housing estate split into two sub-areas – Pinkston to the south and Fountainwell to the north – each with five 20-storey 'slab' tower blocks, plus seven 5-storey maisonette blocks and five rows of tenements in between.
