Sporting Limerick 4yo Hurdle
The Sporting Limerick 4yo Hurdle is a Grade 2 National Hunt novice hurdle race in Ireland which is open to horses aged four years. It is run at Limerick over a distance of 2 miles (3,218 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year at the Christmas Festival. The race was first run in 2001 as a valuable Conditions race. It was awarded Listed status in 2014, raised to Grade 3 in 2017 and has been a Grade 2 event since 2020. In horse racing in the United Kingdom, France and Republic of Ireland, National Hunt racing requires horses to jump fences and ditches. Niall Madden
Niall "Slippers" Madden (born 11 November 1985) is a retired Irish jockey who rode the racehorse Numbersixvalverde to win the 2006 Grand National steeplechase at Aintree Racecourse. Madden's nickname is "Slippers", as a comparison with his father Niall Madden, also a jockey, whose nickname was "Boots". He rode for Noel Meade and won the 2006 Christmas Hurdle for Meade on Jazz Messenger. Madden retired as a jockey after riding at Punchestown on 31 December 2020. Espoir d'Allen was a French-bred, Irish-trained racehorse who won the 2019 Champion Hurdle. Background Espoir d'Allen was a bay horse with a narrow white blaze bred in France by Bruno Vagne. He was sired by the Thoroughbred stallion Voix du Nord out of the AQPS mare Quadanse. Gordon Elliott (racehorse Trainer)
Gordon Elliott (born 2 March 1978) is a County Meath-based National Hunt racehorse trainer. After riding as an amateur jockey, he took out a trainer's licence in 2006. He was 29 when his first Grand National entry, the 33 to 1 outsider Silver Birch, won the 2007 race. In 2018 and 2019 he won the Grand National with Tiger Roll, ridden by Davy Russell and owned by Gigginstown House Stud, the first horse since Red Rum to win the race twice. In 2018 he also won the Irish Grand National, with General Principle. On two occasions, in 2017 and 2018, he was the top trainer at the Cheltenham Festival. Daryl Jacob
Daryl Jacob is an Irish National Hunt jockey who rode for trainer Paul Nicholls as second jockey to Ruby Walsh. When Walsh left the Nicholas yard Jacob took over as principal rider. He won at the Cheltenham festival for the first time in 2011 on Zarkandar in the Triumph Hurdle. His second Cheltenham Festival win was in 2014 on Lac Fontana in the Vincent O Brien County Handicap Hurdle on the last day of the festival. However, before the start of the next race he suffered a broken leg, knee and elbow after Port Melon crashed into the rail. Jacob won the 2012 Grand National on the grey Neptune Collonges. The pairing beat second-place Sunnyhillboy in a photo finish and the closest ever finish to a Grand National. Paul Townend
Paul Townend (born 15 September 1990) is an Irish jockey who competes in National Hunt racing. Townend comes from Midleton in County Cork and rides primarily for the stable of Irish trainer Willie Mullins. Townend has worked for Mullins since beginning his career as an apprentice flat racing jockey. He was Irish jump racing Champion Jockey for the 2010–11, 2018–19, 2019–20, 2020–21 and 2021–22 seasons. In 2019 he gave Willie Mullins his first Cheltenham Gold Cup winner with Al Boum Photo, he repeated this success in 2020. JT McNamara
John Thomas "JT" McNamara (8 April 1975 – 26 July 2016) was an Irish amateur steeplechase jockey. He won over 600 racecourse victories during his career. He sustained a serious back injury and a broken neck after a fall at the 2013 Cheltenham Festival which left him paralysed and using a wheelchair. Biography Career In a glittering amateur career, McNamara rode over 600 point-to-point winners, breaking Enda Bolger's career record in 2006 before himself being overhauled by current record holder, Derek O'Connor some years later. Under rules, he carried home almost every major prize restricted to amateurs as well as many others open to professionals after forming a hugely successful partnership with the Bolger yard. In his native Ireland, McNamara was ever-present at the National Hunt Festival at Punchestown for the duration of his career.
