Sporting Clube de Tomar (also known as Sporting de Tomar, SC Tomar and Sp. Tomar) is a Portuguese sports club from Tomar, founded on 26 February 1915. It has had particular competitive success and notability in the sports of rink hockey and artistic roller skating. Its main men's roller hockey team plays in the Portuguese Roller Hockey First Division and won the Portuguese Roller Hockey Cup in 2023. Other sports practiced in the club are billiards, judo, krav maga and table tennis. Tomar (), also known in English as Thomar (the ancient name of Tomar), is a Portugal, Portuguese city and a municipality in the historical Ribatejo Portuguese Provinces of Portugal, province, and in Santarém District, Santarém district. The town proper has a population of about 20,000. The municipality population in 2011 was 40,677, in an area of . The town of Tomar was created inside the walls of the Convento de Cristo, constructed under the orders of Gualdim de Pais, the fourth Grand master (order), Grand Master of the Knights Templar in Portugal in the late 12th century. Roller Hockey (quad)
Roller hockey (in British English), rink hockey (in American English) or ball roller hockey is a team sport played on roller skates. It is a quad-skate team sport where two teams face-off against one another, trying to drive a hard ball with their sticks into the opposing teams' goalnet. Each team has five players on the rink at a time, four of whom are skaters and one who is the goalkeeper. The ball can only be put in motion by a stick, not the skate, otherwise a foul will be stated. The game has two 25-minute halves, with 15-minute halftime intermission, plus up to two 5-minute golden goal (a.k.a. "sudden death") periods to settle ties with the clock stopping when the ball becomes dead. If the tie persists, a penalty shootout will determine the winner. Artistic Roller Skating
Artistic roller skating is a competitive sport similar to figure skating but where competitors wear roller skates instead of ice skates. Within artistic roller skating, there are several disciplines: * Figures: the individual follows the figure circle line on a specific edge. Figures become progressively more complex with the addition of turns and the use of the third circle (similar to compulsory or "school" figures on ice). * Free Skating: Individual skaters perform solo routines with jumps varying from singles to doubles, triples and quads, and spins to their chosen piece of music. The Portuguese Roller Hockey First Division ( or simply ''1ª Divisão''; literally: Roller Hockey First Division National Championship) is the premier roller hockey league in Portugal. It was established in 1939 and Sporting CP were crowned as the first champions. Porto are the current champions and also the record winners, with 25 titles. The league is contested by 14 teams, with the top four teams qualifying for the following season's Rink Hockey Euroleague and the fifth to eighth placed teams qualifying for the World Skate Europe Cup. Krav Maga ( ; , ; ) is an Israeli Hand-to-hand combat, self-defence system. Developed for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), it uses techniques derived from aikido, boxing, judo, karate and wrestling. It is known for its focus on real-world situations. Krav Maga was originally developed by Hungarian-born Israeli martial artist Imi Lichtenfeld. Having grown up in Bratislava during a time of anti-Semitic unrest, Lichtenfeld used his training as a boxer and wrestler to defend Jewish neighborhoods against attackers in the mid-to-late 1930s, becoming an experienced Street fighting, street fighter.
