Spirit Of Capricorn
The Spirit of Capricorn was a long distance passenger rail service in Queensland, Australia, Operated by Queensland Rail Traveltrain between 1988 and 24 May 2003. It operated between Rockhampton, Queensland and the Capital of the state, Brisbane at its station Roma Street. Route The Spirit of Capricorn commenced service on the 3rd July 1989 as the Main Line Electrification Project between Caboolture and Gladstone was completed. Initially, the InterCity Express sets ordered for this service had been in use from 1988 to operate services to Nambour, and then to Gympie North as the line was energised. The Spirit of Capricorn route follows the North Coast line alignment, the same as the loco-hauled Capricornian service. Due to the introduction of the Spirit of Capricorn, the Capricornian service was reduced to three times per week, eventually merging with the Midlander to form the Spirit of the Outback in 1993. Walkers Limited
Walkers Limited was an Australian engineering and shipbuilding company based in Maryborough, Queensland. It built large vessels and railway locomotives. The Walkers factory still produces locomotives and rolling stock as part of Downer Rail. History In 1863 John Walker and three friends set up the ''Union Foundry'' of John Walker & Co in Ballarat. In 1867 a branch was opened in Maryborough, Queensland, Maryborough. The Ballarat assets were disposed of in 1879 and in 1884, the business became a limited company under the title ''John Walker & Co Limited'', being renamed ''Walkers Limited'' in 1888. The company produced most of the parts for machinery at sugar mills. In 1980 Walkers Limited was sold to Evans Deakin & Company, Evans Deakin Industries. Capricornian
The Capricornian was a passenger train that operated in Queensland, Australia between 1970 and 1993. It travelled on the North Coast line between Brisbane and Rockhampton. History When the '' Sunlander'' air-conditioned express train to Cairns was introduced in 1953, the Rockhampton Mail retained its wooden carriages, and a surcharge and booking restrictions deterred Rockhampton bound travelers from using the air-conditioned services. Following a rearrangement of the Sunlander consists and the construction of further air-conditioned cars, the Capricornian replaced the Rockhampton Mail in 1970, taking 14.25 hours for the overnight trip and running 5 times per week. Electric Tilt Train
The Electric Tilt Train is the name for two identical high-speed tilting trains operated by Queensland Rail for the Tilt Train service on the North Coast line from Brisbane to Rockhampton which entered service in November 1998. Nambour Railway Station
Nambour railway station is located on the North Coast line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the town of Nambour in the Sunshine Coast Region. The Spirit of the Outback is a long-distance passenger rail service in Queensland, Australia, operated by Queensland Rail's Traveltrain division. Route Debuting in November 1993 by combining the former '' Capricornian'' and '' Midlander'' trains, this 1,325 km rail journey operates between Brisbane and Longreach. The ''Spirit of the Outback'' travels along the east coast of Queensland, from Brisbane to Rockhampton, where it heads west through Blackwater, Emerald and Barcaldine, to Longreach. The ''Spirit of the Outback'' passes through coastal landscapes and then travels into the Outback, through mountain ranges, sunburnt plains and historic towns and to attractions such as the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame and Qantas Founders Outback Museum.
