Bundaberg Railway Station
Bundaberg railway station is located on the North Coast line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the city of Bundaberg. History Bundaberg's first railway station, on the Mount Perry railway line, was built in 1881 as a transfer station to the Bundaberg docks for shipping coal from nearby mines. It is now in use as a museum. The station has one side platform and a south facing bay platform. A yard exists opposite the station. Services Bundaberg is served by long-distance Traveltrain services; the ''Spirit of Queensland'', '' Spirit of the Outback'' and '' Tilt Train''. It was also the terminal point for a Tilt Train service. Bundaberg Central is the central suburb and central business district of Bundaberg in the Bundaberg Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Bundaberg Central had a population of 162 people. Geography The suburb is bounded by the Burnett River to the north, Bundaberg Creek to the east, Saltwater Creek to the south and the North Coast railway line to the west. History In 1869, a cemetery was established a block bounded by Woongarra, Maryborough, Woondooma and McLean Streets (). But it was quickly recognised this could not be a long-term option and a new site of was reserved for a new cemetery (now within Millbank) and burials commenced there in 1873. In 1881 the deteriorating condition of the old cemetery led to calls to exhume and relocate the burials from the old cemetery to the new, with the rationale that the proceeds of selling the land of the old cemetery would outweigh the cost of relocating the graves. Mount Perry Railway Line
The Mount Perry Branch Railway is a closed railway line in Central Queensland, Australia. In 1869 copper was discovered at Mount Perry (approx 100 km west of Bundaberg) and the township grew rapidly. A railway to the coast was essential to provide cheap transport and make the mining of low percentage ore viable. Maryborough and Bundaberg vied for the opportunity to be the terminus and the latter city was successful. Survey A survey dated 20 March 1875 proposed a line from North Bundaberg, thus avoiding an expensive bridge over the Burnett River, west to Gin Gin and then via the old road and telegraph route to Moolboolaman but still some distance short of Mount Perry. There were delays in gaining official approval for the line to the extent that, when Queensland Parliament finally approved construction, mining at Mount Perry was substantially curtailed. The Spirit of the Outback is a long-distance passenger rail service in Queensland, Australia, operated by Queensland Rail's Traveltrain division. Route Debuting in November 1993 by combining the former '' Capricornian'' and '' Midlander'' trains, this 1,325 km rail journey operates between Brisbane and Longreach. The ''Spirit of the Outback'' travels along the east coast of Queensland, from Brisbane to Rockhampton, where it heads west through Blackwater, Emerald and Barcaldine, to Longreach. Tilt Train is the name for two similar high-speed tilting train services, one electric and the other diesel, operated by Queensland Rail. They run on the North Coast line from Brisbane to Rockhampton (electric) and Cairns (diesel). Services commenced in 1998.
