Spell Blanket - Collected Demos 2006-2009
''Spell Blanket'' is the first demo album by British indie electronic group Broadcast. It was released on 3 May 2024, through Warp Records. This album marks the fourth posthumous release by Broadcast after lead singer Trish Keenan's death in 2011, and the final release of unheard material from the group. Background In September 2023, group member James Cargill, who has taken on the role of managing Broadcast's remaining material, announced on Facebook that he would be issuing a collection of previously unreleased demos in early 2024. In March 2024, Warp Records announced the release of two demo albums: ''Spell Blanket'' in May 2024, and ''Distant Call'' in September 2024. These two releases are to be the final material released by Broadcast. Broadcast (band)
Broadcast were an English band formed in Birmingham in 1995 by Trish Keenan (vocals, keyboards, guitar) and James Cargill (bass). Their musical style blended elements of 1960s psychedelia with early electronic music and samples from esoteric sources; it earned the band a cult following. Broadcast released three studio albums—'' The Noise Made by People'' (2000), '' Haha Sound'' (2003), and '' Tender Buttons'' (referencing Gertrude Stein's experimental book of poetry by the same name) (2005)—on Warp Records, as well as several EPs and a collaborative album with the Focus Group titled ''Broadcast and The Focus Group Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age'' (2009). The Official Vinyl Albums Chart is a weekly record chart in the United Kingdom. It is compiled by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on behalf of the music industry. It lists the top 40 most popular albums in the vinyl format each week. The chart, along with the corresponding Official Vinyl Singles Chart, was launched on 6 April 2015 to coincide with Record Store Day, and was introduced in response to the major rise in popularity of vinyl records, both songs and albums; 2014 saw 1.3 million vinyl albums sold in the UK for the first time since 1995. The Official UK Charts Company Limited (formerly Music Industry Chart Services Limited), trading as the Official Charts Company (OCC) or the Official Charts (formerly the Chart Information Network), is a British inter-professional organisation that compiles various official record charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France. In the United Kingdom, its charts include ones for singles, albums and films, with the data compiled from a mixture of downloads, purchases (of physical media) and streaming. The UK Album Downloads Chart is compiled by the Official Charts on behalf of the British music industry. Since July 2015, the chart week runs from Friday to Thursday, with the chart date given as the following Thursday. The chart was introduced in April 2006 to coincide with the OCC's decision to include sales of album downloads in the UK Albums Chart. The first album to top the download chart was '' This New Day'' by Embrace.
