Speed Skating At The 2022 Winter Olympics
Speed skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held at the National Speed Skating Oval ("Ice Ribbon") in Beijing, China between 5 and 19 February 2022. It was the 24th time speed skating was held at the Winter Olympics (17th time for women). A total of 166 quota spots (83 per gender) were distributed to the sport, a decline of 14 from the 2018 Winter Olympics. For the first time, gender equality was achieved in terms of quotas. A total of 14 events were contested, seven for men and seven for women. Qualification A total quota of 166 athletes was allowed to compete at the Games (maximum 83 men and 83 women). For the 2018 Winter Olympics the total quota was 180 athletes (maximum 100 men and 80 women). The maximum total number of athletes per gender per nation was 9, compared to 10 in 2018. Laurent Dubreuil (born July 25, 1992) is a Canadian speed skater. He competes primarily in the short distances of 500 m and 1000 m. Dubreuil won his first World Cup medal during the 2014–15 season when he placed third in the World Cup stop in Seoul. Sverre Lunde Pedersen (; born 17 July 1992) is a Norwegian speed skater. He is the son of former speed-skater Jarle Pedersen. Peder Kongshaug (born 13 August 2001) is a Norwegian speed skater. He is a 2022 Olympic champion in team pursuit. Biography Kongshaug is the son of Peer Albert Kongshaug, who represented Norway in sailing and placed eighth at the 1988 Flying Dutchman World Championship in Medemblik, Netherlands. At the 2020 World Junior Speed Skating Championships in February 2020, Kongshaug won the gold medal in the 1000m event. He took part in the 2021 European Speed Skating Championships in Heerenveen where he sixth place in the 500m and also finished in the 10th and 19th place in the 1000m and 5000m events respectively. Lee Seung-hoon (; ; born 6 March 1988) is a South Korean speed skater. Bart Swings (born 12 February 1991) is a Belgian long track speed skater and inline speed skater. He is the 2022 Olympic champion on the speed skating mass start. Swings won Belgium's first gold medal in 74 years and is the first Belgian athlete ever to have won two medals in the Winter Olympics. Patrick Roest (; born 7 December 1995) is a Dutch professional long track speed skater who has won the World Allround Speed Skating Championships three times. He leads the adelskalender, an all-time ranking of skaters' personal bests. He is a member of the commercial team of Team Reggeborgh.
