Special Tactical Unit
The Special Tactical Unit (STU) is an urban counter terrorist unit of the Odisha Police in Odisha, India. They specialise in urban warfare scenarios including hostage situations. History After the 26 November 2008 Mumbai attacks, the state of Maharashtra started an urban counter terrorism force called Force One. Later, Andhra Pradesh also started a similar force called Organisation for Counter Terrorists Operations (OCTOPUS). A similar unit, called Special Tactical Unit, was unveiled by Jugal Kishore Mohapatra, the Chief Secretary of Odisha, on 8 July 2013. After the 7 July 2013 Bodh Gaya bombings, the STU was deployed for security for the first time during the 2013 Puri Ratha-Yatra on 10 July 2013. Special Operation Group
The Special Operation Group (SOG) is an Indian elite paramilitary unit operating under the Odisha Police (OP). The force specializes in neutralizing terrorists, insurgents and extremists. They are trained to execute rapid action under any circumstance; these are highly trained for field craft and jungle warfare as well. Mission The Special Operation Group (SOG) was formed in August 2004, under the Home Department of the Government of Odisha with the main objective of neutralizing any terrorist, insurgent, extremist groups operating in Odisha. Counter Insurgency Force
Counter Insurgency Force or (CIF) A Police tactical unit of West Bengal Police with headquarters in Garia, West Bengal was created by the West Bengal state government in 2010 on the lines of Greyhounds in Andhra Pradesh to combat proscribed Naxalites/Maoists in the state. At least 1000 personnel from the state armed forces have been given commando training prior to inclusion in the CIF. The training center itself is located in Salua, and further field training is given at Salboni, both in West Bengal Midnapore district. Now it shifted to Durgapur. Trainees are shortlisted from common recruitment procedures. District Voluntary Force
District Voluntary Force (DVF) is a special constabulary unit of the Odisha Police. They are primarily used in anti-Maoist operations. It was formed in 2009. Organisation Odisha has 500 personnel under the DVF. They do not wear special lapels or badges. 40% are recruited from former Special Operation Group (SOG) agents, as they retire after 35; and rest from the local police who speak the local dialects and know the terrain. They work in groups of 8–10. Some of them gather information and other carry out operations. They don't require the approval of Superintendent of Police for operations, unlike the SOG. However, for bigger operations, SOG is sent to avoid casualties, as DVF lacks the training. DVF agents have 30% higher salary than the local police. Jagannath Temple, Puri
The Jagannath Temple is an important Hindu temple dedicated to Jagannath, a form of Vishnu - one of the trinity of supreme divinity in Hinduism. Puri is in the state of Odisha, on the eastern coast of India.
