Glenn Spearing
Glenn Spearing (born 1 June 1985) is a former Irish professional darts player. He currently plays in Professional Darts Corporation events. Career Spearing was a prolific winner of Irish darts tournaments in 2012 and 2013 as he picked up eight titles during that time. In 2014, he entered Qualifying School in an attempt to join the PDC circuit full-time, coming closest on the final day when he lost in the last 32 to Joe Murnan. For competing he earned PDPA associate member status which gave him entry into UK Open and European Tour qualifiers. Spearing qualified for the German Darts Championship and beat Magnus Caris 6–2, before being whitewashed 6–0 by Gary Anderson in the last 32 which represents his deepest run in a PDC event to date. Jay Francis Spearing (born 25 November 1988) is a former English professional Association football, footballer who played as a Midfielder#Defensive midfielder, defensive midfielder. He is a coach at the Liverpool F.C. Reserves and Academy, Liverpool FC academy. He started his career with Liverpool F.C., Liverpool as a youth-team player in 1997. He remained at Anfield for sixteen years before leaving, in 2013, for Bolton Wanderers F.C., Bolton Wanderers. Nigel Spearing
Nigel John Spearing (8 October 1930 – 8 January 2017) was a British Labour Party politician who was the MP for Acton from 1970 to 1974, and for Newham South from 1974 to 1997. Background Nigel John Spearing was born in Hammersmith, London. His father had been a Liberal parliamentary candidate. He was educated at Latymer Upper School, Hammersmith and St Catharine's College, Cambridge. He served with the Royal Corps of Signals during his national service. After graduating from Cambridge in 1956, he worked as a tutor and teacher, firstly at Wandsworth School (1956–68) and then at Elliott School, Putney (1969–70). Ruth Lilian Spearing is a New Zealand haematologist, and researches blood cancer. In 2023 Spearing was appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to haematology. Career Spearing attended the University of Otago. She has worked as a consultant haematologist at Christchurch Hospital since 1989, and is the clinical director of haematology at Canterbury District Health Board. From 2003 until 2017 Spearing served as Chair of the Canterbury Hospitals’ Medical Staff Association. Spearing was also Canterbury Clinical Lead for the Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Service. Spearing was also a board member of the New Zealand Medical Association, and a trustee of the Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia Advocates New Zealand. Anthony Spearing (born 7 October 1964) is an English former footballer who played in the Football League for Norwich City, Stoke City, Oxford United, Leicester City, Plymouth Argyle and Peterborough United. Playing career Spearing was born in Romford and began his career with Norwich City and was a member of their youth team that won the 1983 FA Youth Cup, beating Everton in a replayed final. His first two seasons at Carrow Road saw Spearing in the reserves and also spent time out on loan in 1984–85 at Stoke City (making nine appearances) and Oxford United (making five appearances). Spearing played 10 times for Norwich in 1985–86 as they won the Second Division. A penalty in ice hockey is a punishment for an infringement of the rules. Most penalties are enforced by sending the offending player to a penalty box for a set number of minutes. During the penalty the player may not participate in play. In gridiron football, spearing is an illegal tackling technique in which a player makes initial contact with the crown of their helmet by using their body as a spear (head out, arms by their side). An offensive player or a defensive player can be penalized for spear tackling. Spearing from an offensive player will result in a 15-yard penalty, and spearing from a defensive player will also result in an automatic first-down for the offense. 1976 rule change In the year 1976, the tackling technique known as spearing was banned across the board. A spear tackle is an illegal tackle in rugby union, rugby league and Australian rules football in which a player lifts another player into the air and drops them so that they land on their back, head or neck. Spear tackles have caused serious injury including spinal damage, dislocations, broken bones in the shoulder or neck, and death.
