Spawning
Spawn is the Egg cell, eggs and Spermatozoa, sperm released or deposited into water by aquatic animals. As a verb, ''to spawn'' refers to the process of freely releasing eggs and sperm into a body of water (fresh or marine); the physical act is known as spawning. The vast majority of aquatic and amphibious animals reproduce through spawning. These include the following groups: *Bony fishes *Crustaceans (such as crabs, shrimps, etc.) *Mollusks (such as oysters, octopus, squid) *Echinoderms (such as sea urchins, sea stars, sea cucumbers, etc.) *Amphibians (such as frogs, toads, salamanders, newts) *Aquatic insects (such as dragonflies, mayflies, mosquitoes) *Coral, which are living colonies of tiny, aquatic organisms—not plants, as they are sometimes perceived to be. Corals, while appearing sedentary or botanical by nature, actually spawn by releasing clouds of sperm and egg cells into the water column, where the two mix. As a general rule, aquatic or semiaquatic reptiles, ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Spawning Bed
A spawning bed is an underwater solid surface on which fish spawn to reproduce themselves. In fishery management, a spawning bed is an artificial bed constructed by wildlife professionals in order to improve the ability of desired game fish to reproduce. Increasing the spawning ability of a fish population may reduce pressure on a fishery and improve the productivity of supplemental stocking from fish hatcheries. In the inland waters of North America, a typical spawning bed will consist of a series of concrete boxes filled with aggregate gravel. The concept is credited to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife. Joe McFarland, "Making Bass Beds", ''Outdoor Illinois'' XVI:5 (May 2008), pages 16-17. In a typical example of spawning beds in action, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources has installed approximately 50 largemouth bass spawning beds in Crab Orchard Lake in southern Illinois. Spawn (computing)
Spawn in computing refers to a function that loads and executes a new child process. The current process may wait for the child to terminate or may continue to execute concurrent computing. Creating a new subprocess requires enough memory in which both the child process and the current program can execute. There is a family of spawn functions in DOS, inherited by Microsoft Windows. There is also a different family of spawn functions in an optional extension of the POSIX standards . DOS/Windows spawn functions The DOS/Windows spawn functions are inspired by Unix functions fork and exec; however, as these operating systems do not support fork,Windows Subsystem for Linux implements fork. Other POSIX environments such as Cygwin may have an implementation, but using it is not recommended due to the differences in the process model between POSIX and Windows. Fork is not part of the Windows API and most Windows programs do not use these environments, so do not have access to fork. t ... Spawning (video Games)
Spawning in video games refers to the process by which entities, such as Player character, player characters, Non-player character, non-player characters, enemies or items, are generated and placed into the game world. Closely related concepts include respawning, which involves reintroducing an entity after it has been removed (e.g., after a character's death) and despawning, the process by which an entity is removed from the game world, either automatically (e.g., after a set time) or in response to player actions. Player characters typically spawn at the start of a round or match. In contrast, certain objects or mobs may spawn in response to specific events or after a predetermined delay. When a player character respawns, they usually reappear at an earlier point of the level and may incur a penalty, such as a loss of resources or Score (video games), score. The term was coined by id Software within the context of its game, ''Doom (series), Doom''. Spawn points Spawn points ...
