Spartans F.C.
The Spartans Football Club are a Scottish football club based in Edinburgh and currently compete in . They were formed in 1951 by ex-players of Edinburgh University and the original intention was the team would be exclusively graduates of the university. However, the club is now open to players of any background. Spartans play at Ainslie Park and wear white shirts, red shorts and white socks. The senior team plays in , and are managed by Dougie Samuel. They joined the Lowland League in 2013, after playing in the East of Scotland Football League, where it had become one of its most successful clubs from the 1970s onwards. Spartans have been allowed to play in the qualifying rounds of the Scottish Cup since 1978 and qualified for the cup proper on several occasions during their junior days. Douglas Samuel
Douglas Samuel (born 14 September 1964) is a Scottish football coach who has been manager of The Spartans since 2012, making him currently the longest serving manager in the Scottish Professional Leagues. Pollok F
Pollok (, ) is a large housing estate on the south-western side of the city of Glasgow, Scotland. The estate was built either side of World War II to house families from the overcrowded inner city. Housing 30,000 at its peak, its population has since declined due to the replacement of substandard housing with lower-density accommodation. As of 2021, the population was recorded at 81,951 people. The main features of the area are the nearby Pollok Country Park, where the Burrell Collection is now housed, the ruins of Crookston Castle (within the north part of residential Pollok) which Mary, Queen of Scots once visited, and the Silverburn Centre, one of Glasgow's major indoor retail complexes. 2008–09 Scottish Cup
The 2008–09 Scottish Cup was the 124th season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. The winners were Rangers, who defeated Falkirk in the 2009 final on 30 May 2009. The competition was under new sponsorship. While the SFA sponsored the tournament last season, the new sponsor was Homecoming Scotland 2009, a project from the Scottish Government to encourage Scots from all over the world to visit the country. The tournament itself was known as The Homecoming Scottish Cup Banks o' Dee, Bathgate Thistle, Lochee United and Pollok were the four junior clubs that entered this season. Love Street (stadium)
St Mirren Park, more commonly known as Love Street, was a association football, football stadium located on Love Street in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Paisley, Scotland. At one time the stadium was capable of accommodating almost 50,000 spectators, however in its final years it had an all-seated capacity of 10,800. Until its closure in 2009, it was the home ground of St Mirren F.C. The football grounds on Love Street were registered as Fullerton Park for St Mirren's first season there as they were originally rented from a Mr Fullerton. The ground's record attendance was 47,438 for a match against Celtic F.C., Celtic in 1949. St Mirren completed construction of their new St Mirren Park in December 2008. Lossiemouth () is a town in Moray, Scotland. Originally the port belonging to Elgin, Moray, Elgin, it became an important fishing town. Although there has been over 1,000 years of settlement in the area, the present day town was formed over the past 250 years and consists of four separate communities that eventually merged into one. From 1890 to 1975, it was a police burgh as Lossiemouth and Branderburgh. Stotfield, the first significant settlement (discounting Kinneddar which has now disappeared), lies to the north west of the town. 2005–06 Scottish Cup
The 2005–06 Scottish Cup was the 121st season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition, also known for sponsorship reasons as the Tennent's Scottish Cup. The Cup was won by SPL club Heart of Midlothian who defeated Second Division side Gretna on penalties after a 1–1 draw in the final. Gretna earned a place in the UEFA Cup with Hearts having already qualified for the Champions League via the SPL. A major shock occurred in the third round when First Division side Clyde defeated Cup holders Celtic 2–1. Rangers were knocked out of at the fourth round stage, losing 3–0 at home to Hibernian. Spartans reached the fourth round before eventually losing to St Mirren after a replay. City Park was a football ground in Edinburgh, Scotland. The ground was used by several clubs, including Edinburgh City, Ferranti Thistle, Hibernian reserves, Spartans and Craigroyston.
