Sparrow Clubs USA is a Washington non-profit organization helps high schools to "adopt" children with diseases such as cancer and help raise funds to help cover medical expenses. It received national attention in an edition of ABC's popular series '' Extreme Makeover: Home Edition'' when they profiled The McPhail Family. History In 1992, teacher Jeff Leeland and his wife Kristi found themselves in a desperate situation. His nine-month-old son Michael needed a bone marrow transplant, but insurance provided by his new job did not cover the $200,000 cost. At the time, Jeff was the teacher of an adaptive physical education class. Dameon, one of Jeff's students, heard about his teacher's dilemma, and made a gift of $60 to help. Dameon's $donation started a chain reaction of compassion by the kids and staff at Kamiakin Junior High. The community rallied behind these students and in four weeks raised $227,000. Bone Marrow Transplant
Hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HSCT) is the transplantation of multipotent hematopoietic stem cells, usually derived from bone marrow, peripheral blood, or umbilical cord blood, in order to replicate inside a patient and produce additional normal blood cells. HSCT may be autologous (the patient's own stem cells are used), syngeneic (stem cells from an identical twin), or allogeneic (stem cells from a donor). It is most often performed for patients with certain cancers of the blood or bone marrow, such as multiple myeloma, leukemia, some types of lymphoma and immune deficiencies. In these cases, the recipient's immune system is usually suppressed with radiation or chemotherapy before the transplantation. Infection and graft-versus-host disease are major complications of allogeneic HSCT. KDRV
KDRV (channel 12) and KDKF (channel 31) are television stations licensed respectively to Medford, Oregon, Medford and Klamath Falls, Oregon, United States, affiliated with American Broadcasting Company, ABC. Owned by Allen Media Group, the stations maintain studios on Knutson Avenue (near Rogue Valley International–Medford Airport) in north Medford. KDRV's transmitter is located at the edge of Wolf Creek Park in rural northeastern Josephine County (near Golden, Oregon, Golden), while KDKF's tower sits atop Stukel Mountain southeast of Klamath Falls.
