Sparks (band)
Sparks is an American pop music, pop and rock music, rock duo formed by brothers Ron Mael, Ron (keyboards) and Russell Mael (vocals) in Los Angeles. The duo is noted for their quirky approach to songwriting; their music is often accompanied by sophisticated and wikt:acerbic, acerbic lyrics—often about women, and sometimes containing literary or cinematic references—and an idiosyncratic, theatrical stage presence, typified by the contrast between Russell's animated, hyperactive frontman antics and Ron's deadpan scowling. Russell Mael has a distinctive wide-ranging voice, while Ron Mael plays keyboards in an intricate and rhythmic style. Transgressive Records
Transgressive Records is an independent record label based in London, founded in 2004. Its founders, Tim Dellow and Toby L, first met at a Bloc Party gig organised by Toby's Rockfeedback website. The label's debut release was "1am" by the Subways in September 2004, quickly followed by singles from Mystery Jets, the Young Knives and Regina Spektor. Artists on its current roster include Flume, Sophie, Arlo Parks, Alvvays, Julia Jacklin and Damon Albarn. The company also formed Transgressive Management, representing Johnny Flynn, Marika Hackman, Let's Eat Grandma and Wesley Joseph, alongside Transgressive Publishing, working with Black Country, New Road, Foals, Loyle Carner and more. The Royal Albert Hall is a concert hall on the northern edge of South Kensington, London, England. It has a seating capacity of 5,272. Norman "Dinky" Diamond
Norman Victor "Dinky" Diamond (15 December 1950 – 10 September 2004) was a British drummer who played with the rock band Sparks at the height of their fame in the UK in the early 1970s, playing on the albums '' Kimono My House'' (1974), ''Propaganda'' (1974) and '' Indiscreet'' (1975). In 1975 Diamond was voted Drummer of the Year in a poll held by Premier Drums. He committed suicide by hanging in 2004 after a long-running dispute with noisy neighbours. Early years Born in Aldershot in Hampshire, the son of Isabella (née Copland) and Albert Victor Diamond, Norman Diamond gained the nickname "Dinky" as a child because of his small stature. Salvatore Maida (July 29, 1948 – February 1, 2025) was an American bass guitarist. Raised in Little Italy, New York City, he moved to London after completing college, where he played with Roxy Music, Milk 'N' Cookies, Sparks, Cherie Currie, Cracker, the Brandos, and a Lovin' Spoonful tribute band. He also authored the 2014 memoir ''Four Strings, Phony Proof, and 300 45s'' and co-authored the 2023 book ''The White Label Promo Preservation Society Vol 2: More Flop Albums You Ought to Know''. Earle Mankey (sometimes misspelled "Earl" in credits) (born March 8, 1947, in Washington, United States) is an American musician, record producer and audio engineer. He was a founding member and guitarist for the band Halfnelson, later called Sparks. He became a record producer, predominantly for Los Angeles area bands like The Pop, 20/20, The Runaways, Concrete Blonde, Jumpin' Jimes, The Long Ryders, The Three O'Clock, The Tearaways, The Conditionz, Adicts, Durango 95, Leslie Pereira and The Lazy Heroes, and Kristian Hoffman. Elektra Records (or Elektra Entertainment) is an American record label owned by Warner Music Group, founded in 1950 by Jac Holzman and Paul Rickolt.
