Bob Spargo
Robert Leslie Spargo (born 15 October 1939) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Footscray in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Spargo started as a half forward but soon established himself in the side as a centreman and it was in that position that he appeared in the 1961 VFL Grand Final loss to Hawthorn. He had his best VFL season in 1962 when he polled nine Brownlow Medal votes, placing him second behind John Schultz amongst Footscray players that year. Spargo was lured over to West Perth in 1965, as captain-coach and he won a Simpson Medal the same year for his performance against the Victorians in an interstate match. He comes from an Australian rules football playing family, his brother Ricky was a Footscray player as was their father, who also played for Melbourne Bob senior. Charlie Spargo (born 25 November 1999) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). A small forward, tall and weighing , Spargo plays primarily as a forward, but also has the ability to play in the midfield. He has strong family connections in Australian football, whereby he is a fourth-generation VFL/AFL player, with his great-grandfather, grandfather, great uncle and father all playing in the VFL/AFL. He was recognised as a talented footballer at a young age, being a part of the Academy from twelve years of age. John Spargo
John Spargo (January 31, 1876 – August 17, 1966) was a British political writer who, later in life, became an expert in the history and crafts of Vermont. At first Spargo was active in the Socialist Party of America. A Methodist preacher he tried to meld the Protestant Social Gospel with Marxist socialism in ''Marxian Socialism and Religion: A Study of the Relation of the Marxian Theories to the Fundamental Principles of Religion'' (1915). He also founded a settlement house in Yonkers, N.Y. Spargo moved steadily to the right after 1917 when he supported American intervention in World War I. With AFL leader Samuel Gompers he organized the American Alliance for Labor and Democracy in 1917. Spargo helped draft the Colby Note that formalised the Wilson administration's anti-communist policies. Stephen Spargo
Stephen Spargo (29 December 1903 – 1972) was an English professional association footballer who played as a half back. He usually played at centre-half, but was often deployed at wing-half throughout his career. Born in the town of Burnley, he initially played as an amateur in local league football before a move to hometown club Burnley in 1925. He spent four seasons in the Football League First Division with the club before moving to nearby Third Division North outfit Nelson in the summer of 1929. A transfer to Doncaster Rovers followed a year later. In 1932 he joined York City and later returned to Lancashire for a spell at Rochdale, before ending his career in non-league football with Burton Town. Antonio Sparbaro, known professionally as Tony Sbarbaro or Tony Spargo (June 27, 1897 – October 30, 1969) was an American jazz drummer associated with New Orleans jazz. He was the drummer of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band for over 50 years. Background Sbarbaro was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States, to an immigrant Sicilian family. Early in his career he played with the Frayle Brothers Band (possibly as early as 1911) and the Reliance Band of Papa Jack Laine. He did side work with Merritt Brunies and Carl Randall. He joined the Original Dixieland Jazz Band for their initial recordings in 1917; he became its leader in 1925 and remained a member of the ensemble until its dissolution in the 1960s, being the only founding member still in the group at that time. Spargo (band)
Spargo are a Dutch band, formed in 1975, known for their hits "You and Me", "Head Up to the Sky", "One Night Affair", "Just For You" and "Hip Hap Hop" in the 1980s. Career Spargo was formed by Mulder, Elbersen (both of whom had played in the blues rock group Space 7), Driessen, Nassenstein and Lammertink. The band was initially called Funkliefhebber Lammertink. Elbersen left the band and in 1979 American singer Lilian Day Jackson, stepdaughter of jazz drummer Art Blakey, joined. With Jackson and Driessen as lead vocalists, the band got its distinctive sound and got its breakthrough. In 1980, the single "You and Me" topped the charts in the Netherlands and also became the best-selling record there in 1980. The single was also very successful across Europe, in Belgium, Germany, Iceland and Sweden.
