Sovereign Award For Champion Female Turf Horse
The Canadian Champion Female Turf Horse is a Canadian Thoroughbred horse racing honor that is part of the Sovereign Awards program awarded annually to the top female Thoroughbred horse competing in Canada in races on grass, turf. Created in 1975, by the Jockey Club of Canada as a single award for Champion Turf Horse, it was first won by the filly Victorian Queen. In 1995, it was split into male and female categories. The Thoroughbred is a list of horse breeds, horse breed developed for Thoroughbred racing, horse racing. Starship Jubilee
Starship Jubilee (foaled March 10, 2013) is a retired American Thoroughbred racehorse who was named the 2019 Canadian Horse of the Year after recording three stakes wins that year including the Grade I E. P. Taylor Stakes. She was also named Canadian Champion Female Turf Horse in 2017, 2018 and 2019. In 2020, she has won five of seven starts including the Woodbine Mile. Starship Jubilee was bred in Florida and began her career at Gulfstream Park in the claiming ranks. In 2017, she was claimed by trainer Tino Attard for $16,000. Lexie Lou (foaled February 26, 2011 in Ontario) is a Canadian Thoroughbred racehorse. In 2014, she won the Queen's Plate and two legs of the Canadian Triple Tiara on her way to winning three Sovereign Awards. She has also won three graded stakes in the United States and Canada, and finished second to American Horse of the Year California Chrome in the 2014 Hollywood Derby. Sealy Hill (April 14, 2004 – February 23, 2021) was a Canadian Thoroughbred racehorse who won three Sovereign Awards in 2007, including Canadian Horse of the Year. In 2013, she was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame. Owned and bred by Canadian businessman Eugene Melnyk, Sealy Hill was named for a village in Melnyk's adopted home, Barbados. She was sired by 2001 American Horse of the Year, Point Given. Her dam is Boston Twist, a daughter of the 1996 American Champion Two-Year-Old Colt and Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner, Boston Harbor.
