Southfield Rangers Football Club was a Scottish association football club based in the village of Slamannan, Stirlingshire. History The club from the village of Slamannan in Stirlingshire was founded in 1888, taking its name from Southfield Colliery Row in the village. Its first match was an 8–2 victory over Redding Athletic in April. A return match the following February ended in tragedy as Athletic's Robert Whyte suffered an injury in the match that resulted in his death three days later. The club's first competitive football came in the 1889–90 Stirlingshire Cup; the club drew 2–2 with Dunipace at home in the first round, but lost heavily away. By March 1890, however, the club won 11 of 18 matches, and the season finished on a high, as the Rangers beat a scratch Falkirk 4–2, and the club even picked up some silverware; the Rangers won the inaugural Slamannan Charity Cup, beating Slamannan Rovers 4–3 in the final, scoring 2 goals in 2 minutes in the first hal ... Slamannan ( gd, Sliabh Mhanainn) is a village in the south of the Falkirk council area in Central Scotland. It is south-west of Falkirk, east of Cumbernauld and north-east of Airdrie. Slamannan is located at the cross of the B803 and B8022 roads, near the banks of the River Avon, close to the border between Falkirk and North Lanarkshire councils. Slamannan had a population of around 1,360 residents. In 1755 the population was recorded as 1209. Fifty years later the population was around the 1000 in the Parish of Slamanan (although elsewhere in the same volume the usual spelling is used). The 19th-century parish church can accommodate upwards of 700 people. History and Toponymy The name relates to the Manaw Gododdin tribe about whom little is known. Stenhousemuir (; gd, Featha Thaigh nan Clach) is a town in the Central Lowlands of Scotland. It lies within the Falkirk council area of Scotland. The town is north-northwest of Falkirk and directly adjoins to Larbert in the west, where the nearest rail access is located. The villages of Carron and Carronshore adjoin Stenhousemuir to the east but to a lesser extent. At the 2001 census it showed that it had a resident population of 10,351 but according to a 2009 estimate this was revised to around 10,190 residents. The combined population of the four localities in 2011 was 24,722, representing about 15% of the Falkirk council area total.
