Southern Electricity Supply
Southern Electricity Supply (officially, Administrator of the Southern Electricity Supply of New South Wales) was a corporation sole that controlled and administered the electricity supply assets of the New South Wales Department of Public Works, from 1942 to 1950. It operated a number of coal-fired and hydro-electric power stations in New South Wales, and was a bulk electricity supplier to part of New South Wales, mainly in the south and south central-west of the state. In November 1950, its assets and operations were merged into the Electricity Commission of New South Wales. Origins The New South Wales Department of Public Works (PWD)—not to be confused with the modern-day NSW Public Works organisation—was the government entity charged with overseeing construction of public buildings and infrastructure in New South Wales. Gerringong, New South Wales
Gerringong () is a town located about ten minutes drive south of Kiama, and about twenty minutes north of Nowra in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia in the Municipality of Kiama. At the , Gerringong had a population of 3,966. One theory says that the name derives from an Aboriginal word meaning "fearful place". Murrumbidgee River
The Murrumbidgee River () is a major tributary of the Murray River within the Murray–Darling basin and the second longest river in Australia. Picton, New South Wales
Picton is a small town in the Macarthur Region of New South Wales, Australia, in the Wollondilly Shire, in south-western Sydney. The town is located approximately 90 kilometres south-west of Sydney, close to Camden and Campbelltown. It is also the administrative centre of Wollondilly Shire. History Picton was first explored by Europeans in 1798 and remained beyond the limits of legal settlement until 1821. Following the discovery of good land in the interior and the settlement of Bong Bong and the Goulburn areas, Governor Macquarie authorised the building of the new Great South Road between Sydney and the Southern Highlands in 1819. The Southern Highlands, also locally referred to as the Highlands, is a geographical region and district in New South Wales, Australia and is 110 km south-west of Sydney. Jervis Bay () is a oceanic bay and village on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia, said to possess the whitest sand in the world. A area of land around the southern headland of the bay is a territory of the Commonwealth of Australia known as the Jervis Bay Territory.
