Southeast Desert Metal
Southeast Desert Metal is an Australian Aboriginal heavy metal band who have released a number of albums. They have also had a documentary made about them. They are described as the most isolated touring bands in the world. Background South East Desert Metal was formed in 2013 and they have their own take on classic heavy metal. The group comes from the remote Aboriginal community of Ltyentye Apurte (Santa Teresa) and are a self-proclaimed 'family band'. The band is led by Chris Wallace. In his family background, his uncles played country music. However AC/DC, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath was his preference. They also list their inspiration as being inspired by Metallica and Judas Priest. The original lineup included vocalist Cedric Ross. He left the group at some stage. The band also had Derek Hayes on bass but he was replaced by Garry Bird sometime around 2018. Santa Teresa, Northern Territory
Ltyentye Apurte, also known as Santa Teresa, is a community in the Northern Territory, Australia, many residents of the locality are members of the Arrernte indigenous community, whose origins are located about south-east of Alice Springs. History The mission run by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart at Arltunga was moved to Santa Teresa in 1953. It included a Mission school and dormitories which accommodated Aboriginal children aged 5 to 17 years. Hospital care was provided. Father Thomas Dixon was responsible for the church. In 1976, administration was passed from the Mission to an Aboriginal land trust and the community was renamed Ltyentye Apurte. Although the residential section of the Mission school was closed in the same year, the day school remains operational and in the hands of the church. Midnight Oil
Midnight Oil (known informally as "The Oils") are an Australian rock band composed of Peter Garrett (vocals, harmonica), Rob Hirst (drums), Jim Moginie (guitar, keyboard) and Martin Rotsey (guitar). The group was formed in Sydney in 1972 by Hirst, Moginie and original bassist Andrew James as Farm: they enlisted Garrett the following year, changed their name in 1976, and hired Rotsey a year later. Arrernte Language
Arrernte or Aranda (; ), or sometimes referred to as Upper Arrernte (Upper Aranda), is a dialect cluster in the Arandic language group spoken in parts of the Northern Territory, Australia, by the Arrernte people. Other spelling variations are Arunta or Arrarnta, and all of the dialects have multiple other names. There are about 1,800 speakers of Eastern/Central Arrernte, making this dialect one of the widest spoken of any Indigenous language in Australia, the one usually referred to as Arrernte and the one described in detail below. It is spoken in the Alice Springs area and taught in schools and universities, heard in media and used in local government. The second biggest dialect in the group is Alyawarre. Some of the other dialects are spoken by very few people, leading to efforts to revive their usage; others are now completely extinct. Judas Priest are an English heavy metal band formed in Birmingham in 1969. They have sold over 50 million albums and are frequently ranked as one of the greatest metal bands of all time.
