South End Green
South End Road is located in Hampstead in the London Borough of Camden. It takes its name from the old "South End" of Hampstead. It runs southwards from the junction with East Heath Road and Downshire Hill alongside the southern edge of Hampstead Heath until reaching South End Green where it meets Pond Street, Hampstead, Pond Street and two roads running off east towards Gospel Oak. South Hill Park, London, South Hill Park street runs north towards Hampstead Ponds. Keats Grove runs off the road and forms a triangle with Downshire Hill noted for its surviving Regency architecture. In 1860 Hampstead Heath station on the North London Line was opened on the street providing a connection to the City of London for commuters. North London Line
The North London line (NLL) is a railway line which passes through the inner suburbs of west, north-west, north, and east London, England between Richmond in the south-west and Stratford in the east, avoiding central London. Its route is a rough semicircle. Although much of it originated as part of the North London Railway, the current route is the result of a series of amalgamations, closures and reopenings, and has a mix of third-rail and overhead electrical power supply. It remains heavily used by freight services in addition to the main London Overground (LO) service. West End Lane
West End Lane is a street in inner north-west London, England (grid reference TQ2585) that runs for about one mile between Kilburn High Road to the south and Finchley Road to the north. Located in the London Borough of Camden, and the NW6 postal district, the street winds through West Hampstead with a mix of residential and commercial buildings. The three West Hampstead stations are all located on the road at the centre of the district of that name. In the north-east (on the other side of Finchley Road) it today becomes Frognal Lane, although this stretch was once included as part of West End Lane. North End Way
North End Way is a street in Hampstead in the London Borough of Camden, today a stretch of the A502 road. At the boundary with the London Borough of Barnet it becomes North End Road running northwards into Golders Green where it terminates at the junction with Finchley Road, by the tube station. North End Way passes through Hampstead Heath. The name derives from the North End of the old village of Hampstead, with similarly named roads West End Lane and South End Green marking other boundaries. Oswald Milne
Oswald Partridge Milne FRSA FRIBA (February 1881 – 15 January 1968) was a British architect. Biography Born in Balham, London, in February 1881, Milne was the son of the architect William Oswald Milne (1847-1927), who was a partner with Thomas E Champion and Edward Morgan Llewelyn Forster (father of the novelist) at 39 Great Marlborough Street, Middlesex FRIBA. His family subsequently moved to Enfield, Middlesex. Educated at Bedford School, Milne began his architectural training in 1898 when he was articled to Sir Arthur Blomfield. In 1902 he joined the office of Sir Edwin Lutyens. In 1904 he set up his own practice and in 1919 formed a partnership with Paul Phipps. Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood
The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood (later known as the Pre-Raphaelites) was a group of English painters, poets, and art critics, founded in 1848 by William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Michael Rossetti, James Collinson, Frederic George Stephens and Thomas Woolner who formed a seven-member "Brotherhood" modelled in part on the Nazarene movement. The Brotherhood was only ever a loose association and their principles were shared by other artists of the time, including Ford Madox Brown, Arthur Hughes and Marie Spartali Stillman. An art model poses, often nude, for visual artists as part of the creative process, providing a reference for the human body in a work of art. As an occupation, modeling requires the often strenuous ' physical work' of holding poses for the required length of time, the 'aesthetic work' of performing a variety of interesting poses, and the ' emotional work' of maintaining a socially ambiguous role. While the role of nude models is well-established as a necessary part of artistic practice, public nudity remains transgressive, and models may be vulnerable to stigmatization or exploitation. Annie Miller
Annie Miller (1835–1925) was an English artists' model who, among others, sat for the members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, William Holman Hunt, Dante Gabriel Rossetti and John Everett Millais. Her on-off relationship with Holman Hunt has been dramatised several times. Early life Annie Miller was born in 1835 in a cottage in Chelsea near the Duke of York public house. Her father Henry had been a soldier in the 14th Dragoons and was wounded in the Napoleonic Wars. Her mother was a cleaner. She had a sister Harriet.
