South East Faversham
South East Faversham is a planned new town outside of Faversham in Kent. The town master planner is architect Ben Pentreath. Location The proposed development occupies of farmland to the south east of Faversham, approximately bounded to the south and east by the M2 motorway, to the west by the A251 road, to the north by the former A2 road and bisected by the Dover branch of the Chatham Main Line. The land is identified for housing in the Borough of Swale draft Local Plan. Planning stage The Duchy of Cornwall, which owns the land in question, aired the proposal in 2019. Faversham
Faversham () is a market town in Kent, England, from Sittingbourne, from London and from Canterbury, next to the Swale, a strip of sea separating mainland Kent from the Isle of Sheppey in the Thames Estuary. It is close to the A2 road (Great Britain), A2, which follows an ancient British trackway now known as Watling Street, which was used by the Romans and the Anglo-Saxons. There has been a settlement at Faversham since pre-Roman times, next to the ancient sea port on Faversham Creek. The Roman name was Durolevum. The modern name is of Old English origin, probably meaning "the metal-worker's village". It was inhabited by the Saxons and mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as ''Favreshant''. Ben Pentreath
Benjamin Toby Pentreath (born November 1971) is an English architectural and interior designer who runs Ben Pentreath Ltd, a RIBA chartered practice, and Pentreath & Hall, which sells home furnishings. '' Country Life'' called him one of the "best country house architects in Britain". Pentreath is responsible for much of the development since 2009 of Poundbury. He has also done other work for the Duchy of Cornwall, including a development in Truro. As an interior designer, he has worked for Princess of Wales on the refurbishment of Anmer Hall. Early life Pentreath was born in Dorchester and grew up in an old stone barn. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 1995 with a degree in Art History. M2 Motorway (Great Britain)
The M2 is a long motorway in Kent, England, and was built to bypass a section of the A2 road in Kent, which goes through the Medway Towns, Sittingbourne, and Faversham. It provides an alternative route to the Port of Dover, which supplements the M20 motorway located further to the south. The terminal junctions of the M2 intersect with the A2, which come together to form a long trunk road from London to Dover. Route The M2 starts west of Strood, diverging towards the southeast away from the A2 road. Between J1 and J2, the M2 is four lanes in width, and slopes down into the Medway Valley south of Rochester. J2 is located to the northwest of the left bank of the River Medway, linking the A228 road to the M2, which runs between Strood and West Malling. A2 Road (England)
The A2 is a major road in south-east England, connecting London with the English Channel port of Dover in Kent. This route has always been of importance as a connection between London and sea trade routes to Continental Europe. It was originally known as the Dover Road. The M2 motorway has replaced part of the A2 as the strategic route. Unlike the other single digit A-roads in Great Britain, the A2 does not form a zone boundary. The Chatham Main Line is a railway line in England that links London VictoriaQuail Map 5 – England South ages 2–13Sept 2002 (Retrieved 14 December 2011) and Dover Priory / Ramsgate, travelling via Medway (of which the town of Chatham is part, hence the name). Swale is a Non-metropolitan district, local government district with Borough status in the United Kingdom, borough status in Kent, England.
