South Dakota Highway 63
South Dakota Highway 63 (SD 63) is a state highway in central South Dakota, United States, that connects U.S. Route 18 (US 18) south-southeast of Parmelee with the North Dakota state line north of McLaughlin. It consists of two disconnected segments. The southern segment begins at US 18 south-southeast of Parmelee and proceeds to a rural intersection just south of Norris. The much-longer northern segment, which is long, begins at an intersection with SD 44 just south of Corn Creek and ends at the North Dakota state line north of McLaughlin, where the roadway continues as North Dakota Highway 6 (ND 6). Portions of SD 63 north of US 14/ SD 34 west of Hayes are part of the Lewis and Clark Trail. Jackson County is a county in the U.S. state of South Dakota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 2,806. Its county seat is Kadoka. The county was created in 1883, and was organized in 1915. Washabaugh County was merged into Jackson County in 1983. Geography The terrain of Jackson County consists of mountains rising from rolling hills. The ground is arid and carved with drainages. The White River flows eastward, cutting a meandering channel through the central part. The terrain generally slopes to the NE; its highest point is a ridge near the SW corner, at ASL. Lewis And Clark Trail
The Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail is a route across the United States commemorating the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804 to 1806. It is part of the National Trails System of the United States. It extends for some from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the mouth of the Columbia River in Oregon. The trail is administered by the National Park Service, but sites along the trail are managed by federal land management agencies, state, local, tribal, and private organizations. The trail is not a hiking trail, but provides opportunities for hiking, boating and horseback riding at many locations along the route. South Dakota Highway 34
South Dakota Highway 34 (SD 34) is a state route that runs parallel to Interstate 90 across the entire state of South Dakota. It begins at the Wyoming border west of Belle Fourche, as a continuation of Wyoming Highway 24 (WYO 24). The eastern terminus is at the Minnesota border east of Egan, or southwest of Airlie, Minnesota, where it continues as Minnesota State Highway 30 (MN 30). It is just over in length, making it the longest state highway in South Dakota. History When first implemented in 1926, the western terminus was at South Dakota Highway 45 near Gann Valley. North Dakota Highway 6
North Dakota Highway 6 (ND 6) is a major north–south highway in North Dakota. It runs from South Dakota Highway 63 in McLaughlin to Interstate 94 Business Loop in downtown Mandan. Route description ND 6 begins at the South Dakota state line, where the roadway continues as South Dakota Highway 63. It has two intersections with ND 24. In between the two intersections with that highway travels through Selfridge. North of there, it travels by Breien, and later encounters the eastern terminus of ND 21 turning right at that intersection before making a sharp left curve and heading north again. South Dakota Highway 44
South Dakota Highway 44 (SD 44) is a state highway in southern South Dakota that runs from U.S. Route 385 (US 385) west of Rapid City to Interstate 29 (I-29) south of Sioux Falls. It is just more than long. Route description SD 44 begins at a junction with US 385 and heads along a curvy road in a general southeasterly direction through the Black Hills National Forest. It curves to the east and leaves the forest, then bends back to the southeast and clips the northeastern corner of the forest before leaving it permanently and entering Rapid City, where it is known as Jackson Boulevard. In the western outskirts of Rapid City, the highway curves to the northeast and passes north of Canyon Lake before crossing Rapid Creek. The county was named for Dighton Corson, a native of Maine, who came to the Black Hills in 1876, and in 1877 began practicing law at Deadwood.
