Souq Al Wakrah
Souq Al Wakrah (; also known as Al Wakrah Heritage Village) is a reconstructed traditional marketplace in the coastal city of Al Wakrah, Qatar, approximately south of the capital Doha. Situated directly on Al Wakrah Beach, the souq incorporates traditional architectural features and heritage elements, and includes both old-fashioned houses and commercial spaces. The souq was opened in late 2014, in conjunction with Qatar National Day. History The development of Souq Al Wakrah was part of a broader national initiative to protect and revitalize Qatar's historical sites. Al Wakrah
Al Wakrah () is the capital city of the Al Wakrah Municipality in Qatar. Al Wakrah's eastern edge touches the shores of the Persian Gulf and Qatar's capital Doha is situated immediately north of the city. Governed by Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, it was originally a small fishing and pearling village. Over the years, it evolved into a small city with a population of more than 80,000 and is currently one of Qatar's most populous cities. The city was historically used as a pearling center during the period in which Qatar's economy was almost entirely dependent on the bustling pearling industry. Souq Waqif
Souq Waqif () is a marketplace ( souq) in Doha, the capital of Qatar. The souq sells traditional garments, spices, handicrafts, and souvenirs. It is also home to restaurants and shisha lounges. The original building is a specimen of traditional Qatari architecture and dates back to the late 19th to early 20th centuries. It was renovated in 2006. Location It is located in the district of Al Souq which is situated in the centre of Doha. As it was a market used for trading activities, the area used to be located immediately on the shore to allow for boats to access it from Doha Bay.
