Sound It Out
''Sound It Out'' is a 2011 documentary film that documents the last surviving record shop in Teesside Teesside () is an urban area around the River Tees in North East England. Straddling the border between County Durham and North Yorkshire, it spans the boroughs of Borough of Middlesbrough, Middlesbrough, Borough of Stockton-on-Tees, Stockton .... It was directed by Jeanie Finlay, who grew up in Stockton-on-Tees, where the film is set. The documentary follows the record shop called Sound it Out in Stockton-on-Tees. It was the official film of Record Store Day 2011. It was funded using crowdfunding, and was later bought by the BBC. Accolades Sound it Out won the 2011 Leeds International Film Festival Cinema Versa award for Best Documentary. Jeanie Finlay
Jeanie Finlay is a British film director, producer, screenwriter, and artist from Stockton-on-Tees. Early life Finlay was born to an English mother and a Scottish father, who worked in life insurance. Her mother encouraged her artistic, creative side. Finlay credits a stay with her grandmother in Winchester during a period of teenage illness as key in her decision to follow a creative path. Finlay studied art at Cleveland College of Art and Design and then contemporary arts at Nottingham Trent University. Her first film ''Teenland,'' grew out of making an interactive installation artwork ''Home-Maker'' about the lives of seven housebound, older people living alone, in Derbyshire and Tokyo. Career Finlay's work includes a documentary about the making of the final season ''Game of Thrones'', ''The Last Watch'', along with the Bifa-nominated ''Seahorse'', about trans man Freddy McConnell's pregnancy. Leeds International Film Festival
The Leeds International Film Festival (LIFF) is an annual film festival hosted in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is the largest film festival in England outside of London. Founded in 1987, it is held in November in various venues throughout Leeds, including Hyde Park Picture House and Cottage Road Cinema. In 2022, the festival showed 140 films from 78 countries, shorts and features, both commercial and independent. LIFF features five programme sections: Official Selection, Retrospective, Cinema Versa, Fanomenon and Short Film City.
