Suad (Arabic: سعاد ''su‘ad'') and the variants Souad, Soad, stems from the Arabic verb ''sa‘ada'' (سَعَدَ - 'to be happy, fortunate or lucky') which the name means "good luck, good fortune, happiness, auspicious, prosperous, favorable". Souad Massi (سعاد ماسي; born August 23, 1972), is an Algerian Berber singer, songwriter and guitarist. She began her career performing in the Kabyle political rock band Atakor, before leaving the country following a series of death threats. In 1999, Massi performed at the ''Femmes d'Algérie'' concert in Paris, which led to a recording contract with Island Records. Souad Abderrahim (born 1964) is a Tunisian politician. She was elected as the mayor of Tunis, Tunisia's capital, on July 3, 2018. She is a member of the Islamist Ennahda Movement, and the first woman to serve as Tunis's mayor. Life She is a native of Métouia. She studied at the Lycée Khaznadar in the suburbs of Tunis. She wore the veil during her years of study at the Faculty of Medicine of Monastir. Souad Aït Salem, also known as Souad Aït Mahour-Bacha (born 6 January 1979 in Mécheria, Algeria) is an Algerian long-distance runner who specializes mainly in the half marathon and marathon. She won gold in the 10,000 metres at the 2000 African Championships in Athletics and the 2005 Mediterranean Games. Salem also won the gold in the half marathon at the 2007 All-Africa Games.
